Earth Cake
Submitted by ANGIEM
A hearty bundt cake packed with oats, sesame seeds, raisins, and mixed nuts. Warm spices, rum, and brandy give it deep, earthy flavor that lives up to its name.

Rolled oats soaked in boiling water (or apple juice for extra sweetness) form the base, while sesame seeds, poppy seeds, raisins, and chopped nuts fill every slice with texture.
Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves bring the warmth, and a splash of rum and brandy rounds out the flavor with something a little sophisticated.
It’s earthy and wholesome without being boring. The kind of cake that tastes even better the next day with a cup of strong coffee.
Chef Tips
- Soak the oats first. Letting rolled oats sit in boiling water or apple juice softens them so the cake stays moist and tender.
- Mix your nuts. Walnuts, pecans, almonds, whatever you have. A blend gives the best crunch and flavor.
- Toast the sesame seeds. A quick dry toast in a skillet brings out their nutty aroma before they go into the batter.
- Don’t overbake. Start checking at 35 minutes. This cake dries out quickly once it crosses the finish line.
