Directions

Beat shortening and sugar together until creamy. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, soda, and salt.

Add to creamed mixture; blend well. Stir in oats.

Chill dough for several hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to moderate heat (375F).

Shape the dough into approximately 24 - 1-inch (2 1/2cm) balls.

Arrange the balls onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

While the cookies are baking, prepare the milk chocolate squares and pecans for when you take the cookies out of the oven.

Remove from oven, and without delay, place a small square of chocolate on each cookie. Remove the cookies from the baking sheets and press a pecan half into the melted chocolate.
