Directions

Preheat oven to 350℉ (180℃). Grease 13x9x2 inch pan and line with waxed paper; grease paper.

Combine brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, orange peel and ½ cup water in saucepan.

Cool and stir over medium heat until mixture boils and thickens. Remove from heat; stir in apples, raisins, walnuts and vanilla. Turn into pan and spread evenly.

Combine dry cake mix, eggs, oil and 1¼ cup water in large mixer bowl. Mix batter as directed on package. Turn into pan and spread evenly over apple mixture.

Bake at 350℉ (180℃) F for 40 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. At once, invert pan onto large platter. Remove pan and peel off paper.

Let cool slightly. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
