10 minPeaches and hot dogs might sound like an unlikely match, but this sauce will make a believer out of you.
The fruity sweetness of peach cobbler (or finely chopped canned peaches) blends with brown sugar, vinegar, and Worcestershire into a glaze that caramelizes beautifully on the grill.
Ground ginger and mace add a warm, aromatic spice that lifts the whole thing out of ordinary ketchup-and-mustard territory.
Score your hot dogs diagonally so the sauce seeps into every groove as they char, and baste at least three times while grilling.
Works just as well on pork chops and chicken, or heat it up in a chafing dish with sliced dogs for a party appetizer.
Kitchen Tips
- If you can’t find junior peach cobbler, use the same amount of well-drained, finely chopped canned peaches
- Score the hot dogs on three sides so they split open and grab more sauce
- Baste during the last few minutes of grilling to build up a sticky, caramelized coating
- Makes about 1 ½ cups, enough for 2 pounds of hot dogs
