Ingredients

2 cups sugar
½ cup butter
½ cup vegetable shortening

2 large eggs
2 cups applesauce
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
scant
3 teaspoons baking soda
4 cups all-purpose flour
sifted
1 cup raisins, seedless
dates or nuts

Directions

Cream butter, shortening, sugar and eggs.

Add sifted flour, cocoa, salt and spices alternately with the applesauce.

Add soda in hot water.

Mix thoroughly.

Pour batter into greased 9x13: pan. Bake about 40 minutes at 350.

Serve plain or with whipped cream.
