Very tart apples (the recipe specifically calls for sour ones) get mixed with granola for crunch, raisins for chewiness, and warm spices for depth.
Because you’re using less sugar than typical pies, the natural tartness really shines through, balanced by those sweet raisins and the honey notes in the granola.
Pro Tips
- Use extremely tart apples like Granny Smith or even crabapples so the filling doesn’t turn bland
- The granola adds texture and fiber but can burn easily, so watch the pie in the last 10 minutes
- Make a lattice top if you want, or keep it simple with a solid top crust with vents
Ingredients
Directions
Preheat oven to 400.
In a glass mixing bowl, mixed the apples with the lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, granola and raisins.
Fill the unbaked pie shell with the apple mixture.
Dot top with margerine.
Place the pie in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
Lower oven to 350 and bake another 20 to 25 minutes.
Remove pie from oven and let cool.
If desired, make a lattice topping for the pie.
