Directions

Cream butter with sugar. Add egg. Beat thoroughly. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking powder and salt. Add alternately with milk to the creamed mixture. Add nuts and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Pour into a shallow well oiled baking pan. Bake in moderate oven (375 F) for 30 minutes. Serve with vanilla or hard sauce.

Serves 6 Hard Sauce 1 ea lemon, juiced 1½ cup powdered sugar ½ cup butter 1 x salt Cream butter, add sugar slowly, beating constantly. Add lemon juice and a few grains of salt. Beat until well blended. Serve. Vanilla Sauce 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cup water, boiling 2 tablespoons butter Combine sugar, salt, and flour. Add water slowly, stirring constantly. Cook over hot water (double boiler), stirring constantly, 8 minutes. Add vanilla and butter. Stir until well blended. Serve with baked or steamed puddings.
