Directions

In Dutch oven, sauté first four starred ingredients in hot oil until tender.

Add meat, 1 pound at a time, stirring until meat loses redness.

Drain; add water.

Add remaining ingredients, stirring after each addition.

Simmer 2½ to 3 hours, stirring frequently.

Season to taste with garlic salt and pepper, if desired.

I have been making this recipe for years as my husband refuses to eat beans of any kind. It is delicious and always a hit. Serve with corn bread...yum!
