you want fast bisquick dumplins? lol use the biscut packages you buy individually, they are 2 cups pre measured..you can get them in various flavors, and all you do is change the 2/3 cup of milk to water...been using them a year everyone loves them

anonymous

Various Flavors?

anonymous

That's a good idea, thank you.

anonymous

I've made dumpings for over 50 yrs all different ways. everyYYyYyy one always love the easiest to make?! The Bisquick one! LOL go figure.

It's the only time my family liked... did I say like? I shoulda said loveddddd the Bisquick recipe over a bunch of other much harder to make ones.

I love me some Bisquick biscuits too... XO

anonymous   United States

Then I guess they’re not Bisquick dumplings then

anonymous

I'll take the original. Nothing beats em and they couldn't be quicker.

anonymous   United States

I do that too. But I still add milk. Why water?

Cat

I always add rubbed sage to my dumplings.

anonymous

Mmm Mmm!

anonymous

I did not and have not had the same experience that I’ve had for the last 30 years. The recipe or the product is nit the same. If you follow the recipe in the box with 4 packets (maybe be more in it). It comes out very fence and everyone is completely disappointed. It’s so awful to offer a great meal and one of the best parts of it come out very wrong. I’ve wasted time, money and disappointed a lot of family and friends. It’s very very frustrating! Why would the company do this. I’ve heard other people say this same thing.

If your company really care about profit, I would think they would address this……, but no one ever does. I don’t understand and am looking for anew product if anyone can suggest one to me, something much better than what Bisquick keeps offering. Thank you and I look forward to your suggestions!

Stephanie   United States

Whoever has made dumplings for 30 years and needed a recipe from bisquick after using the product for that many years has learned nothing and clearly needs to continue to strive to cook better .. after 30 years you would think that you could alter any recipe to your own liking and preference .. just saying .. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ BISQUICK and had always been a great quick fix for dinner and breakfast .

anonymous   United States

Why does it say don’t add to liquid it didn’t used to say that? My stew is too thick to put the dumplings into it?

anonymous   United States

Thank you ,I will have to buy a package .

GG

The question about dropping it on liquid- I wondered that too- but I THINK they’re using “stew” and “liquid” interchangeably? And they are pointing out to drop by spoonfuls and not just plop the whole bowl full onto the top???

Julian   United States

Google Earth

theresag063

Re: the “liquid”/“stew” questions, they’ve always said that you should drop the dumplings onto meat or veggies, not into plain liquid where it would just sink. I pity the family that has to eat stew that thin!!

Re: the “liquid”/“stew” questions, they’ve always said that you should drop the dumplings onto meat or veggies, not into plain liquid where it would just sink. I pity the family that has to eat stew that thin!!

anonymous

Fucking gross.

anonymous   United States

I lv my dumplings. Thank u Bisquick for m.j sy years of them n many more

Terry   United States

I don't understand what is the difference it says drop dumplings onto stew not into liguid

Darryl Lynn

I like them best in homemade Chicken soup

anonymous

where can you buy pre measured packages?

Jus robyn

I use the box and use 3/4 cup buttermilk - let dough rest 5 min and use a cookie scooper to make the perfect same size dumpling. So easy!

Sharon K.

I just made a small batch and I don’t even bother to measure. I just dump Bisquick in bowl, add milk from carton slowly (to control the amount used) then mix with a fork until it forms a sticky blob that holds together. Sometimes I need to add more milk to get right consistency . Spoon individual dollops over ingredients in pot. Great results yet again!

anonymous   United States

Thanks for that info.

anonymous

I am 61 years old now. In my 20's when I was just learning to cook I used biscuit dough. Then as I got older my aunt taught me to make them homemade. The difference difference huge. Now I use biscuit and they taste the same as homemade. Never will I ever make them with biscuit dough again.

Linda

I love Bisquick dumplings. No trick to them. They puff up and float and thicken my chicken and dumplings recipe at the same time. Usually use a healthy amount of herbs in them. Like herbs de provence. Tonight's dinner as a matter of fact. Yum

anonymous   United States

I add parsley, gives them a boost in flavor. Especially when making them for chicken and dumplings.

Scar

I think what it means by "do not drop into liquid" is so that it doesn't splash up and burn you" At least that's my take on it.

Hummingbird

I agree. Ive always dropped them slowly. Just make sure you have enough broth/chicken ratio. Otherwise your gravy will thin. Delicious!!!

anonymous

I think it was to avoid splashing hot liquid & getting burnt. There is always liquid of some consistency in my stews & that’s exactly where they go…and help to thicken.

La

I mix them like this recipe, add some garlic and herbs to the mix like some others said. But to get them to be like moms, I do roll out the dough very thin and cut them into squares with a pizza cutter. I drop in boiling chicken and veggies stock. The sink, then rise, and then simmer for a while. I always have to double the recipe, my family loves them. The next day they are fabulous.

pam

These are the dumplings I grew up with. Now, my grandchildren eat them, They are the best. This recipe also works as the cobbler top for berry cobblers

anonymous

That’s good to know

Paula   United States

My Bisquick dumplings have never been fluffy...I have been trying for years to make them fluffy...they turn out very hard and gummy, and I follow the recipe...I don't know what I am doing wrong....

Robin

Paula United States be sure your bisquick is not outdated. If your dumplings are hard the baking powder isn't working anymore to rise them. Only use fresh.

anonymous

Paula, I use water instead of milk. Makes them fluffier.

anonymous   United States

I sprinkle dill weed in mix & on top, "dilly dumplins", so good!

theresag063

Paula, make sure you’re not over-mixing. You should have lumpy batter, like with muffins. Hope this helps!

anonymous

Yes! Makes great fruit cobbler!

Valerie

Paula United States. I have found that if I cook my dumplings on too high of temp they don’t fluff up and tend to be doughy. I bring my broth to a boil and add dough then turn the heat way down to a simmer. Been making these dumplings for almost 50 years.

StoneTemple48

I use Bisquick to make a Peach Cobbler.
I use the cheap biscuits most time for making Chicken&Dumplings. I tried Grand biscuits, there noo difference in taste, except price wise. Cut biscuits into 1/4 and drop on soups/stews. #meow S.

anonymous

I agree they are the bes!

Tammy   United States

I've always dropped them right in the boiling stew when making chicken and dumplings. They come out perfect every time. They don't sink

Rj

My favorite, from granny 45+ years ago bisquik drop dumpling rules. Wonder why recipe no longer n box had to look online

Dawn

I have used this recipe for 20+ years in stew and chicken and dumplings. This is how I vary it.
quarter 2 Tbls butter
1/4-1/2 sea salt
1 tsp parsley
mix dumpling recipe and add the above items and let set for about 10 minutes.
enjoy

anonymous   United States

Do you melt the butter?

anonymous

What do you mean by set? Do you mean let them rest for ten minutes before dropping into the stew?

Rocky

Same here! I couldn't believe they took it off the box!!

Stephanie   United States

Yes let it rise before dropping the biscuit .. cook uncovered for 10-15 depending on size . Then cover for another 10-15 .

Kevin

Paula, don’t forget the part about not over mixing!

anonymous

I use poultry seasoning in the dough. Gives it a great flavor!

anonymous   United States

I've used a similar recipe for about 30yrs.I add dill and sea salt and pepper, I've always gotten really nice fluffy dumplings, but I've noticed in the past 2yrs. They've become really dense, I thought maybe they've changed the ingredients, I've done it the same way every time. I'm making them now, maybe I'll try water

anonymous

For the gluten free version of bisquick, you need more milk - maybe a cup to 1.25 cups. It's great by the way. So happy it exists.

anonymous

It is off the box but you can find it on your telephone via GoogleThat's what I just did

anonymous

WOW

:)

very cheeky wow there

anonymous

ya i caught that snarky wow too.

anonymous

I am amazed when people think that dough balls are dumplings! Bisquick makes wonderful, fluffy dumplings that my husband and kids love. It also makes a lovely shortcake to serve with strawberries!

anonymous

They are dumplings and not dough balls. The dough cooks in the stock. It's like a cooked biscuit on the inside.

anonymous   United States

Thanks, karen

Ladyva214   United States

My mom always made her shortcake with Bisquick. So that’s how I make mine.

anonymous

A few years ago I started adding a couple of stalks of celery to my chicken and dumplings. It adds a little flavor and color.

anonymous

I add carrots and celery, and I drop the dough directly on the boiling liquids-been making these for 40 years-- no problems--comes out perfectly.

anonymous   United States

I have added it to the liquid for decades. It helps to make your broth thicker. I also add a couple of teaspoons of Italian seasonings to the dumpling mix. It adds a nice change, and great flavoring to your meal.

anonymous   United States

I have cooked my chicken and kept the broth do I just bring broth to boil and drop in the dumplings mix into the chicken and broth ,how long does it take for dumpling ro for d one..?

anonymous

I wish I had some cellery today

sean

I add parsley stalks as well.

sean

I add parsley stalks as well.

anonymous

I use chicken stock

Bjean

I have always used celery for extra flavor.

anonymous

I sauté celery and onions in butter, the way my mother did. Soo good

AnnieGotHerDumplings   United States

Try a dash of turmeric next time. Perfect flavor and a natural yellow color.

anonymous

I love bisquick went to make some dumplings no recipe on the box?? what happened. anyway looked on here I got it. Thanks again. been with bisquick a long time.. :)

anonymous

Just remember 2 c b/ 2/3milk. I like to use a small scoop Like 1 for one cream.I got mine at pampered chef.

anonymous   United States

When my children were small and not liking many veggies, I shred zucchini into batter and used a little more mix until consistency looked right. They loved it !

anonymous

I always cook my chicken in water and chicken broth, celery and onion. And I add can cream of chicken soup to the pot before I put in dumpling mix. This makes them delicious!

Stephanie

I add carrots, celery, onions, dill and garlic with chicken broth let boil with your "cooked" chicken. When the chicken is so tender I add the dumplings. Perfect!!

anonymous

I use 2 cans of mixed vegetables & 3 cans of chicken broth + chicken I cook in the crockpot.

lori

how do u make them with chicken stock please? thank you

Sammy in Indiana,USA   United States

I'm so disappointed I had to go online to find the recipe that's always been on the box.

Oma

I've been using Bisquick for over seventy years. I always use stock or broth in soup and stews. Using water cuts the flavors way down. Using broth ups the flavor. Oma

anonymous

In seventh grade in home economics class our spelling word was biscuit. I spelled it Bisquick. I got it wrong. I still use Bisquick and will never get it wrong by using it. I am 64 years young!!!

anonymous

LOL!

anonymous

I love that. Thanks for sharing

anonymous   United States

I love your comment. You rock!

anonymous

you are so right !

anonymous

Lol!! That's so cute! I've always loved these and they are the only genetically modified thing I will allow in my house. As long as I don't get some disease I will continue to use it once in awhile. It's truly not good for our organs and immune system. But I like how fluffy the dumplings are. Adding organic garlic helps me to think I've made them a little healthier, LOL!

anonymous   United States

I love this story!

anonymous   United States

Love it. Happy cooking!

anonymous

Yes, put that dumpling recipe back on the box...the younger generations will. not know about it! This MUST be handed down

anonymous   United States

That recipe on your box is an American tradition , I never would have learned to make dumplings without it. We didn't all have mothers to teach us or time to cook from scratch. And some don't have computers.

Lord Balzac   United States

Haha it's so hard to mix stuff together

anonymous

I agree. Had to Google it.

anonymous   United States

Even though I don't like the fast soups I love the dumplings so I will make it using a can soup just so I can eat the dumplings LOL

Two of which are great grands. I think I have used bisquick every way you can. Dumplings with parsley is one of my favs and my children
Thinks so too. You just can’t beat bisquick dumplings. Love love love it!! : )

anonymous   United States

If you don’t have celery stalks on hand, use celery seed instead. Celery doesn’t last that long for me, so instead of buying a stalks, I keep seed on hand at all times. Keeps me from throwing wilted stalks away.

Debbi

I agree!!!

Sherri

Please put the receipe for Dumplings back on the box I don’t make that often, but when I do I always have to go to a site to get the receipe.

anonymous

Hear your customers, the ones that keep you in business Hello...Put the DUMPLING RECIPE Back on the box! It doesn't take up that much space.

I usually cut the receipts off boxes, my cook book is full of them but I haven’t bought Bisquick for years. Thank God for the internet

Pat

My mother made the bisquick biscuits and poked a piece of velveta cheese into the center before dropping them into o pot of bubbling tomato soup!! Delicious!!

theresag063

Okay, I agree the recipe needs to go back on the box, but y’all do realize that Bisquick isn’t seeing what you post here, right? You need to go to Bisquick’s website to tell them!

anonymous

I so agree.

anonymous

Please put the recipe back on the box. Thank you. Maureen in Pennsylvania,USA

anonymous

this same recipe IS on the side of box.

anonymous

Not on my box. I am looking at it. They have pancakes and waffles on back which both contain eggs but nothing on the side but the web site. That is planned so people will go to their web site. Unfortunate so many elderly people are left off the scene in the web greed for money.

anonymous

I doubt if the recipe for dumplings will go back on the box...it has been off for years. It will be forgotten.

anonymous   United States

Not on 20 oz box. I'm looking at it.

anonymous

Put the receipe back on the box !!!

anonymous   United States

Yes I agree!!Recipe needs to back on box!!

anonymous

Not on 20 oz box. Same same!

anonymous

I guess they don't care what the customer feels. we want the dumpling receipe back on box.

anonymous

Oh for heaven sakes, the only difference between a Biscuit & a Dumpling is one is baked the other is steamed. Same recipe.

Dana. Virginia   United States

I simply cut the recipes off the empth and tape them into my "homemade" recipe binder along with recipes from newspapers and friends. You'll have it forever then. I add ground sage and rosemary to mine, excellent in chicken soup. Mmmm

Faye   United States

Stephanie. Obviously you aren’t a cook from scratch since you know all the mix recipes. My memory isn’t what it used to be. You should be on Facebook with that attitude.

shirley

Sure glad I have a computer. If not I would have been in big trouble. Guess I would have been out tomorrow and buying it. But what about the people who dont have a pc. Think about it, put it back on the box and REMEMBER WITHOUT US sales would drop.

anonymous

same here , I had to get on the Bisquick site !

Judy   United States

Why was dumpling recipe taken off the box? Really dumb! It takes up so little space & is such a cornerstone of Bisquick. What was deemed more important? Fire that fool!

anonymous

Agree, and no, the recipe is not the same. I made it the biscuit way and pretty much ruined my stew, once. 2/3cup of milk verses 1 cup makes a lot of difference, they are not fluffy, pretty much melt in your stew. I want mine fluffy.

anonymous

I cannot believe the recipe isn't on the box any longer! Bisquick/Betty Crocker has lost its mind.

Tlaguna
California

anonymous

Need the recipe back on the box please

anonymous

What do you mean "do not drop directly on liquid"? The meat and veggies sink to the bottom. What other way do you suggest to place the dumpling?
Linda
Lindapurlgurl@gmail.Com

anonymous

I love how nobody is answering this question!!!! .....please! Someone explain!!!

anonymous

You drop them in lightly to simmering soup with tablespoon they will float to top then it's 10 min uncovered and 10 min covered.when they swell up it generally covers whole top of like a 8 quart kettle (ya know the size that like comes in sets with handles ) hope this helps :0)

anonymous

They mean drop on top

anonymous

Absolutely

anonymous   United States

No recipe on 20 oz. box. What size box do you have ?

Eva

I got to agrer with you, what the hell does Do Not Drop Dumplings Directly into Liquid Broth! somebody please explain that to me

anonymous   United States

Please put dumpling recipe back on the box.

anonymous

I grew up with bisquick but my husband likes those flat premade dumplings so we compromised... I use bisquick and just roll it out and cut it in strips. Tadaa. Still fluffy and it makes a thicker broth those premade chewy strips never could. Now its my favorite. Belinda, Florida

anonymous

So you use minimal flour to roll them out correct? This is exactly what i was looking for. Thanks bunches for posting...

anonymous   United States

I roll out the dough for my dumplins,. . .they are chewy & more like a fluffy noodle. I have chicken broth, pieces of chicken, carrots, celery & green peas. Sometimes, I quarter potatoes & cook them in the broth. So good too. I drop the dumpling into the broth to cook.

anonymous   United States

So what measurements do you use when you do it this way. Is it the sam 2 c. of bisquick to 2/3 milk?

anonymous

That's exactly how my great aunt made them my entire life. That's how I make them now. Best ever! I wouldn't like them any other way! My family wouldn't even call them dumplings if they weren't made with Bisquick and rolled out thin..... real thin. lol

anonymous

Same here fluffy verses flat

anonymous

Thank you

Connie United States

Put the recipe back on the box...PLEASE! Fortunately I have a computer or there would be no dumplings tonight.

anonymous   United States

This is a Southern style of making Chicken & Dumplings. Roll them out with flour, dredging them in the flour & cut them in long fairly thin pieces.

anonymous

i just bought another box today, and searched the other boxes in the store, no recipe. so glad i found it here.

anonymous

How long do you cook them?

anonymous

I bought a box today no dumplings. I agree what happens to people that don't have Internet!

anonymous

My box didn't have the recipe for dumplings ?? I had to go online to find it,,I've never used bisquick before and it would be pnice to have it on the box !!

anonymous United States

I say make the bisquick, bulk and packaged in a baggie yourself in any flavor. Like garlic cheese. Keep the poisons off your table and out of your children.

Poisons?

Why do my dumplings end up being deavy and doughy in the middle, I must be doing something wrong?????? Help

anonymous

warm the milk first

anonymous

broth / gravy needs to be boiling, you need to cook it uncovered then covered.

And thank you for having htis

anonymous

copy the recipe from this site on a posted note and attach to box of Bisquick. Easy right?

anonymous

I followed the recipe and cooking instructions to the letter, but sometimes my dumplings are not fluffy. Why?

anonymous

Maybe your flour wasn’t self rising.

Steve

Dumplings like biscuits, suffer from over-mixing. If they come out chewy or dense, gluten has been over developed. This is great for bread, but not for light and fluffy. Suggestion: Mix by hand, gently (spoon), rest the dough at room temp. 'till you see some rise and never use a wisk.

anonymous

How much milk for the entire box 20 oz. for dumplings?

anonymous

Kindly put directions for preparing dumplings on box. I use 1/2 milk and 1/2 broth from seasoned chicken broth. Delicious!!!

anonymous

dumpling recipe needs to be back on the box please.

anonymous

2 cups bisquIck and 2/3 cup of milk. How difficult is that to remember?

anonymous

Lol. That's what I was thinking. Not only that but these comments are on the page with the recipe so they obviously found it.

anonymous

The recipe is on the side of the box under BISCUITS & DUMPLINGS. The dumpling recipe is at the bottom of that section. It's always been there but easy to overlook.

Sugar Dumpling

I have not made this dumpling recipe for about 10-15 years. I am preparing & noticed the recipe was gone. So I immediately searched on my PC, and thankfully it was found. After so many years I had forgotten the actual recipe although it's a very simple one. I can't wait to taste those babies after so long. I'm sure that with all of the requests to add back on box, they will - sometime soon, or not. I see others have been requesting for years now. Wow.

Shirley

I just got a new box, and the recipe for dumplings is in the side of the box, and the drop biscuits recipe is on the side. No problem at all. Only reason here is because when I cut those two recipes off of the box, I cut off the amount of milk. Wanted to make sure I remembered it correctly, which thank goodness, I did. Love Bisquick!!!QX

anonymous   United States

Just purchased a box of Bisquick. NO dumpling recipe to be found.. your box must be old..

Sue Dempsey

I made chicken and dumplings, no recipe on my new box. I found it on here, wrote it down on a sticky note and posted inside my cupboard...

anonymous

Just find the recipe either from a previous box or the internet & tape it to the bottom of the box. Or, you could even just write out the recipe & place it under the box. Just be sure to put the box back in the same place.

anonymous   United States

I like to mix in chives, parsley, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheese, before adding the milk.
It makes the best tasting dumplings ever!!!

Yep Please!!! put the dumpling recipe back on the box. I might forget the process of preparing it. This time I started it covered and checked the recipe on line and found you cover it in the last ten minutes.

I make my own bisquik! Always handy and costs a LOT less..... easy Peasy, Pinterest it!

Been making my husband these dumplings filled with sharp cheddar in the middle and cooked in a few cans tomato soup, diluted with milk! His favorite for 22 years!

Inexpensive and comforting on a cold evening! Like having a grilled cheese in your soup!

For my chicken and Dumplings
What did I do wrong??
VANCOUVER Canada

anonymous

I have been making dumplings with Bisquick for over 20 years. This year I made them, and just like your post, they sank in the broth, never came back up to the top and were doughy. Yukkk. These past 2 times there was more broth in the pot, but I have done that before. In the past they have always floated and I would drizzle some broth over them as they cooked - floating on top of the broth. Why did they sink and come out heavy and doughy???
(Broth was boiling)

anonymous United States

Bought a box of Bisquick special for the dumplings. Got home and found the recipe had been removed. Please put it back on the box. No other dumplings will do in my house!

My Aunt gave me a recipe on how to make a turkey for the first time. She sent it but at the end she told me I had to sing to it while I was making it! Lol. (She was totally joking) you just reminded me of that when you said no noise

anonymous

going to make a this recipe tonight and double it. looking forward to a no fuss chicken and dumplings that doesn't take all day!!!!

anonymous

The recipe is on the box on the side at the bottom where is find the nutrition facts. I think they put it back on the box because it wasn't there 3 years ago.

anonymous

Got the dumplings..How much broth? I heard cream of chicken soup as well?

anonymous

I use cream of chicken soup for my broth.

anonymous

I use plenty of broth such as ham broth, small chunks of ham, potatoes, green beans, boiling and then add dumplings and reduce heat. Great meal.

anonymous

I love to add it to sauerkraut that is how my mother made it. I add it to sauerkraut and kielbasa

anonymous

recipe not on my box..thank heavens for the internet..I put a litle thyme in the batter..dumpllngs have long been a favorite

anonymous

I have made dumplings from scratch when I was out of Bisquick but they weren't as good. My mother used Bisquick and I do too. You can't beat it for shortcake, pancakes, etc. I still use the Bisquick cookbook I bought when I got married in 1966. My kids brag about my homemade strawberry shortcake and pineapple upside down cake! I'm 75 now and still love to cook and Bisquick gives me homemade results the easy way!

anonymous

I still have a couple of little Bisquick booklets from the early seventies, do not make the recipes anymore but I kept the booklets just in case.

anonymous

Please put dumpling recipe back on the bisquick box. I found it more comforting knowing it was there. Thank you for your product and please listen to your bisquick readers. You know a new generation of users will buy your product. Think back, then ahead.

anonymous

Found the recipe on my Bisquick box. Listed under biscuits or dumplings. Been making the biscuits and dumplings for years. They're the best!!! There's no substitute.
Homemade chicken soup with dumplings...it's what's for dinner.

anonymous

I have an awesome recipe for crock pot chicken and dumplings, but it calls for canned biscuits, didn't really care for, so now have Bisquick, do I put in the crock pot or boil on stuff and then transfer??? Why not add to liquid?? Help

Never knew JC had to do much cooking but He must be the one who put the lamb idea in my ear. I've always loved Bisquick dumplings with my lamb stew. Now that I've discovered how to mix 1/3 lb. gr. lamb into prepared dumpling mix, form dumplings and cook in 8 c. French Onion Soup I have another late-from-the-office dinner. Fast, easy, tasty and better yet sprinkled with Parmesan and green peas on the side.

anonymous

No recipe on my box for dumplings. Please put it back on all boxes or print inside?!

anonymous

My kids were always Picky Eaters, so I called the dumplings "clouds" and they ARE ! They gobbled them up and wanted to know when we could have them again!

anonymous

I bought a box yesterday to take on a camping trip.. No recipe. I had to find it on here. Maybe I got an old box.

anonymous

They are like light pillows of deliciousness. A family favorite !

anonymous

Put the dumpling recipe back on the box side panel please!

anonymous

Put the recipe back on the box. If you don't, your light bulb is a little dim. The only reason I buy Bisquick is to make the dumplings my Mother and everybody else did. This is a very simple thing to do to make so many people happy.

anonymous

I usually make home made dumplings, but I'm not feeling good. So I am using Bisquick for my chicken and dumplings today. I make mine just like homemade chicken noodle soup, but instead of noodles I'm using dumplings.
They need to put the recipe back on the box.

I am 81 years old .
I am making my 8 qt pot full of rolled out chicken & Dumplins for my kids & grandkids this week. It's a fav for all still . . .they are grown up. I am using Bisquick. Needed the recipe again. Not on the box!

anonymous

how many people have to ask before you put the receipe back on the box.. my daughter a newly wed asked me ..i said look at the box? my mistake.. who needs to make waffles?

anonymous United States

Please put recipe for dumplings and chicken fingers back on the box.

anonymous

The recipe is on the box, always has been. Just Look.

anonymous

I have used Bisquick for over 40 years and many different recipes to include dumplings. The dumpling recipe was always on the side or on the back of the box. Now when I buy Bisquick sometimes the dumpling recipe is on the back or side however most of the time it is not. And the dumpling recipe is slightly different from the biscuit recipe; the biscuit recipe calls for 1/4 cup more milk. I too wish the dumpling recipe was on every Bisquick box instead of certain ones; so I am as the rest of you leaving a message in hopes Betty Crocker listens to all of us and put the dumpling recipe where it belongs! Thank you for such as wonderful product as Bisquick...it surely is wonderful tool to have!

anonymous

So rude. Why?

anonymous

chicken and dumplings are great comfort food any time of the year
so please replace the recipe on your Bisquick box

anonymous

Dumpling recipe not on my box.that i brought at Walmart today. Glad to find this website. It is just the Hubby and I now, so i like to buy the rotisserie chicken you can get at Sam's club for $5. I try to make as many meals out of it as i can, usually 2-3 meals. In the summer i make chicken salad or curried chicken salad, or chicken nachos or quesadillas, and in the winter soups. Been a while since i made chicken and dumplings. Sent hubby to buy some bisquick and NO recipe.! enjoyed reading everyone post.

Dumplings are so popular....why would you remove the recipe from the box? PLEASE.... put it back on the box.

anonymous

I was shocked to not find the dumpling recipe on my Bisquick box. I almost panicked then I remember the internet and Google the recipe. Yum yum!!!
PLEASE put the dumplings recipe back on the side of the box!!! THANK YOU

Jesus Christ! Put the Recipe back on the box and fire the people that said to take it off!!

anonymous

It always seems to be some idiot in marketing who makes these decisions! They need to listen to their ACTUAL customers...

anonymous

Why in heavens name would you leave the recipe off the box for dumplings!!!!!!

anonymous

My mom used to put the dumplings over pork chops. She's gone now and I can't ask what else she added. Do you just brown pork chops and then add . . what liquid?? before placing the dumplings. Any help appreciated, Thanks. Diane USA

anonymous

I follow the recipe to the letter but my dumplings are so soft they pretty much fall apart. What am I doing wrong?

anonymous

Ok what is the Name if the Man who decided to take the DUMPLINGS off the BOX. Are you Crazy? My mother is oh boy MAD. And NO she don’t have internet. Old School for the sake of her being, please stop changing what isn’t broken PLEASE. That person should be fired. The best recipe on the box.

anonymous

How do you know it was a man?

anonymous

Really?! It was a man -- Because NO woman would have take that recipe off the box! Common Sense. And, years later now these complaints are still being logged and no it is not on the 20 oz box as of Jan 2022. Project Manager need a different project. Take it Twitter, maybe get recipe back on? Also, there's a phone number on the box. Good Luck

What measurements do i use if i decide to try rolling out my dumplings? It can't be the same as regular dumplings as they would be too sticky to roll out, right?

anonymous

Please put the Dumpling recipe back on the box. Makes it a lot easier than having to go and turn on my computer, looking for the recipe.

anonymous United States

Does anyone hear us???? Put the recipe for dumplings BACK
ON THE BOX!!!! PLEASE!!!!

Nancy Straley

I think they hear us but they but they're tuning is out and you're right the dumplings don't come out right I think they have changed the recipe to the flour ratio --+as long as people still buy their product they don't have to change dog on thing and if they do they don't care what they do
,--

anonymous

I do not cover my dumplings for the last 10 minutes as recipe states. I tried this and my dumplings literally dissolved. So now I cook them uncovered and they are so nice and fluffy. I cook the dumplings and then gently add the cooked shredded chicken a little bit at a time, gently pulling dumplings apart to make a little peep hole to fold the chicken into the bottom of pan. Works great and we love them!!

anonymous United States

I have been making bisquick dumplings for years & the new box does not have it any longer WHY!!!

PUT DUMPLING RECIPE BACK ON THE BOX!!!!!!!!!!!

Betty, I couldn’t believe that there was no recipe on the back of your Heartsmart Bisquick box for dumplings. I see I’m not the only one. Please put it back on!! I am 71 and have used your mix for years, but I don’t have it memorized. It is the best!

anonymous

Yes I agree please put the dumpling recipe back on box, they are the best ever and I also seen now that they are not on boxs I buy.

anonymous

I ONLY by Bisquick to make dumplings, if it isn’t on the box, guess I will buy an off brand.

anonymous

People have you ever used your phone? to busy texting? Call the company, the more people calling the better. I for one cut out the whole back of the big box years ago and put it in my recipe notebook. Anyway call the companyh

anonymous

Please put the dumpling recipe back on the box! I have been dropping the spoonfuls of dough on top of my chicken soup for years. Cook 10 minutes uncovered and then 10 minutes covered. I drop by spoonfuls right in the soup liquid. It does make for better thicker broth. It's my family's favorite soup.

anonymous United States

I got a store brand (Aldi's) "bisquick"...it's not on that box either!

anonymous

Southern dumplings are not anything like traditional Bisquick dumplings. Rolled dumplings are more like noodles and are appropriately called "Slick Dumplings". Please don't mix the two recipes. They are 100% differently tasting foods.

Now at 77, I have never had chicken and dumplings that are cooked uncovered. For as long as I can remember, the chicken broth is brought to a boil, the dumplings added, covered and cooked for approx. 10 min. Light and fluffy.

Carol   United States

I am 84 years old. That is how my mom taught me. Have broth at a medium boil, drop dough by tablespoonful, doing so quickly. cover and leave cover on!! for 13 minutes. No peeking! If the center seems heavy, it is probably because the balls were too big, or not enough space in pan. I always cooked one batch of dumpling, and then added precooked noodles to the broth, after removing dumplings. Cooking the dumplings always made the broth thicken nicely.

anonymous

I finally got a box without the recipes I count on. Blah! Please put the recipe for dumplings back on the box. Why did you "fix" something that was already just fine?

anonymous United States

Great easy delicious dumplings.

anonymous

I have made dumplings from the recipe on the box for 50 years, now they take it off! That is crazy.....luckily I have a computer, but many other older people do not have one to look it up every time! Please put back on the box!

anonymous

I have never used Bisquick. It sure would have been nice to have a recipe on the box. My mom used a German box brand when not making homemade. Next time I will grab that german box brand. Tried making hubby's kind he grew up with. But No Directions- No Buy!

anonymous

add a pinch of sage to the dough!!

Just bought a new box of Bisquick and it had NO DUMPLING RECIPE! What idiot thought it would be a good idea to omit the dumplings recipe? Put the recipe back on every box. So simple.

Does anyone put rolled out dumplings in the fridge to be ready to drop in the broth for the next days' meal? (Don't have time to roll out beforehand).

anonymous

I really wish you would return to printing your recipes on the boxes of Bisquick. I always depended on your recipe for chicken and dumplings and for velvet crumb cake. I cannot find the exact recipe for velvet crumb cake anywhere and it is one of my favorites. Please start printing the recipes on your boxes again.

anonymous

Has no one noticed that the prep/cook times in the printed recipe don't add up? The recipe is fine, otherwise.

anonymous

My mother used Bisquick to make her dumplings which came out light and fluffy. I used the same recipe on the box for years with the same success. Then I switched from my electric stove with burners to a cooktop stove, and they came out like rocks!!! What happened?? I bought a new box and tried them again, but no success. Has anyone else had this problem?

anonymous United States

I've been making these bisquick dumpling for years. I also add an eqq to make them fluffier.

anonymous United States

I've been making these for years, my mom too and through reading these comments it's the first time that I heard you need to let them sit for a few minutes to rise?

Here's a very simple recipe for homemade chick dumplings, a no fail...
Pot, half gallon water in it brought to boil. Add in Wylers chicken bullion granules, about 4 tablesoons. Drop in diced half onion, thinly sliced 2 carrots, cover and simmer on low 20 minutes. Take all meat off an already cooked or rotisserie chicken. Put aside. Freeze the chicken skeleton. Now, your dumplings you can get frozen by Kettle or Aunt Marys, eithet is fine. Grabv2 packs, and bring your broth to a rooling med high boil. Add dumplins 1 at a time. It will look like a lot of dumplings but thats fine. Now, here's the trick....add 1 can cream of celery soup and 1 can cream of chicken soup into the pot. Stir ever so often to prevent sticking. It will take aroynd 20 minutes on low for youe dumplins to be aldente and your broth nicely thicken. You're almost done now. While still on low add 1 half can evaporated milk or 1 whole smaller can, and cut up 1 stick of real butter, not unsalted. Stir. Add chicken in and dump a regular size can green peas in. Fold it all in. Tadte, and now you add salt if needed, 2 tsp sugar for sure, and a good shake of black pepper. Turn off burner. Set up for 5 min and serve. I also add fresh garlic to mine in the beginning. The whole process is only around 45 min and you can't beat it. You can feed 4 people on less than 15.00 tjis way.

anonymous

I have been making these dumplings for about forty years and add celery, carrot, and dried onion flakes. I make a broth with the dried chicken broth cubes and water and now use a rotisserie chicken (pulled off bone) to make it simple. Along with most of the comments above, I will appreciate it if you put the recipe on the box, so I don't have to look it up each time. Thanks!

Attn: BISQUICK
PLEASE PUT THE RECIPE BACK IN THE BOX!!!! My family has used your brand since before I was born, and the other day I called up my 78 year old Dad to ask him for Grandmas recipe...he replied “It’s on the Bisquick box” ...but it wasn’t, and I had to read him the whole box, because he could not believe it wasn’t on there. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT to both of us. Some things should always be there...i.e. your dumpling recipe.

anonymous United States

I have seen enough. The next time I go into the grocery store I am taking a Sharpie and writing the recipe on the box. No more cut up Grands Biscuits in my stews.

anonymous United States

Evidently Bisquick isn't listening!
PUT THE DUMPLING RECIPE BACK ON THE BOX!
OR INSIDE THE BOX WITH A NOTE STATING IT'S IN THERE!

anonymous United States

LMAO!!! I can't believe folks on this website have been complaining about the missing dumpling recipe on the Bisquick box FOR MORE THAN SIX YEARS!!!! Uhhhhh…….this IS NOT the Bisquick website! Wouldn't it be a tad more effective to address any issues with Bisquick on the freaking Bisquick website??? Just sayin.....

Hmmmm...Bought Bisquick yesterday to make chicken and dumplings for my granddaughter. No recipe on the box for the dumplings. So I just GOOGLED it. No problem. Can't wait to make it. Stop complaining about "NO RECIPE ON THE BOX FOR THE DUMPLINGS".

daffjeri

Awesome.

anonymous

OMG. People have been complaining for at least 3 years and 11 days about the missing-from-the-box dumpling recipe, It seems the Bisquick people do not care what their customers want. Right? Disappointing.

anonymous United States

I have used the box recipe for over 30 years. then no longer on the box. I have it memorized except wasn't sure how much milk. Put it back on the box.

anonymous

First of all, if you all have been making these dumplings for as long as you claim you have, you should have the recipe memorized by now. So, stop expecting the makers of Bisquick to do all the work for you and start doing your own homework. Simply, print out 2 copies of this recipe. Put one in the cookbook you go to the most. Tape the 2nd copy on the inside of the cabinet door where you store your beloved Bisquick. Voila! You now have the recipe at your finger tips any time you need it. Grow up and stop bellyaching and be glad that all they did was drop the recipe from the box. How would you all act if they stopped making Bisquick, period! Oh, if you are so worried that the recipe won't be around for your children or grandchildren, you can fix that, too. Make them a cookbook with your family favorite recipes in it and make sure you include this dumpling recipe for them. Problem solved! Now you can all get back to baking and cooking with Bisquick. Enjoy!

anonymous United States

please put the recipe back on the box. lost without it ....so are the grandchildren. best dumplings ever...

anonymous United States

Baby those dumplings. I see people saying dumplings are heavy. The secret is to make sure your stew thick enough to support and to treat them gently.
Thicken your soup before adding dumplings. They should sit on top while cooking, not down in the soup.
Don't "drop" dumplings in. I've found that using two forks to push batter onto the stew allows it to gently lay on top. Following exact cooking times is also important. Do not take lid off during first 10 minutes.

anonymous United States

OMG. Eat what you enjoy in moderation. No one gets out alive. Be happy. Not obsessive.

anonymous United States

I add about 1/2 cup more bisquick to the recipe and roll it out on a floured or sprinkle bisquick on counter to roll out. Use pizza cutter to cut in strips and pinch off dough from strips into boiling broth.

anonymous

I had to cut the recipe off the box a long time ago, but now I know it by heart. The problem with all these recipes is they don't say that the stew or soup has to be boiling to get the dumplings not to sink in the broth. After you put all the dumplings in and they are floating, turn down the soup and cook 10 min on low and then cover and 10 min. The dumplings will always sink if you don't boil the soup. I agree the recipe needs to stay on the box on the side where it always was.

anonymous

I live in New York and my sister lives in Cleveland, Ohio. How much of a difference in liquid do we need?

anonymous

Agree the dumpling recipe needs to be back on the box! I don’t need colorful pictures of what I could make with Bisquick on the box. Just the recipe for the dumplings that is the best reason to buy it! Betty Crocker should learn to value customer input and satisfaction is key to keeping our loyalty.

anonymous United States

We love Pork & Sauerkraut made on top of the stove. After the meat is done, I remove it from the pot. I then put the dumplings (using a large serving spoon) on top of the sauerkraut & cook boiling for 10 minutes. I then cover the pot & cook another 20 minutes on simmer. My family loves them. I can put about 11-12 spoonfulls on top of pot.
Lost recipie. Why not on box??? Glad I just got a phone that allows me to find this site. Loved all the other ideas.

anonymous

Why do southerners have what they call dumplings that are hard like hockey pucks to me. Are they really dumplings? Of course they think ours are terrible. I am 76 and learned how to make these from my Mom, so have been eating/making them for about 70 years. Making them tonight.

anonymous United States

Love Bisquick dumplings. This has been a staple for myself as far back as I can remember. Best chicken and dumplings. Will try to use the dumplings on my cobblers.

anonymous

I use chicken broth to cook the chicken - 2 breasts per recipe. Then, remove the chicken breasts to cool until after I make the dumplings (drop by spoonfuls into boiling broth). Finally, add the cut up chicken - I do not shred the chicken, but cut them into chunks of about 3/4 by 3/4 inches. If there are leftovers, place thick dumpling mixture into saucepan and add either chicken broth or milk to thin for easier warming and eating. I have not added carrots or celery because I wasn't raised on adding those veggies, but I bet they would be tastey!

anonymous

I always add 1/2 tsp of poultry seasoning to these dumplings. No other dumplings come close!

anonymous

I use chicken boullion in my stew with chicken thighs, onions, celery, carrots and criminal mushrooms. Cook for 2-3hrs on simmer, then raise to a boil to cook the dumplings. Paprika on to PD them is a nice touch.

anonymous

I add chives to the dumplings, really good.

anonymous

My Dad used to make dumpling that were as big as my head. I can’t figure it out! And my Dad is gone and he took his recipe with him.

anonymous

I bought a box of Pioneer Baking Mix because Bisquick took the dumpling recipe off their box. Big mistake. My dumplings were hard lumps of gummy mess. PLEASE put the recipe back on the box!

I agree with Jefferson City, if everyone who commented on this site would go to the Bisquick site, I'm sure it will be put back on the box. I'm going to do it today because it's more than just a recipe on a box. It's a a tradition and a mother and daughter bond for generations. Well, that's what it is too me.

I guess the answer is to not even give Bisquick who we all adored even though I’m a good cook I worked at a day care and used recipes also on box like deep dish pizza kids loved sloppy joe with Bisquick on top dumplings my mom used this recipe and they are soft and comfort food kids today think comfort food as spicy taco chips and flaming hot Cheetos let’s get people back to how it’s done Right now I hate Bisquick!!!!!

There must be a couple hundred posts with people begging for the recipe to be put back on the box. Seriously, General Mills! Although it can be found on some of the boxes, depending on the size and distribution, why not promote your product to all customers?! The lack of convenience WILL ABSOLUTELY result in reduced sales. The cover could be be minimally redesigned to accommodate the recipe. There’s simply no excuse!

Put the recipe back on the box. those of us who know and Bisquick dumplings will always know to go look for it. It's the new Young Cooks and your future business that will suffer if it stays off the Box.

My Mom is 94 going on 95, she has made Bisquick dumplings all of my life. I just got through making a pot of them this evening myself, and I have to always remember what she has always said, do it backwards of what it says on the box, cover immediately after dropping then uncover and cook another 10 minutes.

anonymous

I love these dumplings. They are so light and fluffy. One thing I have learned if you want them to stay light and fluffy rather than to get heavy and gummy is to skim all fat off the surface of the broth before adding the dumplings. If there is fat on top of the broth the dumplings will suck it up like a sponge and the dumplings are ruined. Good luck and enjoy.

Betty Crocker, Bisquick. I am very disappointed in the fact that you took off the recipe for the dumplings, but also for the fact that you now use Genetic.Engineering to produce your product.
I will now start making my own recipe for dumplings.

My mom taught me over 30 years ago to increase the mix & milk by 150% (ie 3 cups Bisquik 1 1/3 cups milk. Makes a thicker more hearty batch of Dumplings...

Cooking tip: The mix is very sticky and will stick firmly to your spoon/scoop to avoid this happening, after you drop a Dumpling or two dip your spoon/scoop into the hot liquid for a cpl secs the next. Cpl of Dumplings will release quite easily

anonymous

A long time ago I cut & saved recipes from the box. Didn’t know any was omitted! I have all the original recipes. I’m 82 & still cooking same dumplings for the family.

My mom made Bisquick dumplings and I wanted to make them too because I remembered how good they were. Had to go to Pinterest for the recipe and it wasn’t easy to find. They are still my favorite.

anonymous

I have always added a little poultry seasoning and chives to add color and flavor

Why are you not listening to your customers? I have t made it for years, my kids grew upon it. I bought bisquick today expecting the dumpling recipe, it wasn’t there, sad. Their request was for nothing. Does this mean you don’t really care about us? I was so disappointed.

anonymous

I can't believe they don't put the dumpling recipe on the box anymore. More people would see how easy and good it is. I am 83 and used it for many years.

anonymous

Well Bisquick, It took over an hour to read all these comments. And as of Nov. 7, 2020, there are over 200 requests for putting the dumpling recipe back on the box. I'd say there is an ad campaign worth having on your product. You've got people from 8 to 80 years old asking, or begging to put it back. So either your web admin or your marketing dept. is broken. Seems like a product easily replaced by milk, flour and water would be more interested in keeping peoples business....jussayin'

Anybody know recopy for crepes using bisquick?

Why does it matter where you live to add or not liquid??

Please put the dumpling recipe back on the box!

anonymous

Can someone please help me how to do dumplings on top of pork and sauerkraut! My Grandma passed away and this is how she use to do it and now family put me in charge! PLEASE HELP!!!!

anonymous

I used to love the Velvet Crumb Cake recipe that was on the old boxes. I think you can still find it on line.

anonymous

I'm reading this crazy discussion because the dumpling recipe is NOT on the box!!!! and I could not remember if it was "uncovered - then covered", or "covered then uncovered" . So put the recipe back on the box already! It is a National Outcry!

anonymous

My mom who does not own a computer at 81 years of age and I were talking about dumplings and she said she always used the one on the box, but said it wasn't on the new box she bought and she couldn't remember it. So I had to look it up on-line for her. I agree with the other posts, put it back on the box, more recipes less graphics. We want to eat good food not look at the pictures on your box!

anonymous United States

I’m 81 and have always used Bisquick so did my mom. Sorry it’s not on the box any longer. Not always so easy to remember at my age and have to drag out my recipe book and notes. Less stuff on counter when recipe was on the box.

anonymous

Don’t forget to add the cream of chicken..........stupid assholes forgot to add the main ingredient to the list.

That's Disgusting

You know, you can call this chicken and dumplings but in our household it's chicken and clouds. Every now and then I'll do the flour and eggs and make a stick to the wall dumpling but most of the time my family wants chicken and clouds. I follow all the same recipes I put chicken onions carrots peas no celery I can't eat that stringy stuff and it smells funny so no celery but everything else and I season it with their with Rosemary and thyme , parsley
And a little salt and pepper but every time I make chicken and clouds I have to relook at the recipe cuz I don't remember if it's 10 minutes on with the lid at first or 10 minutes without the lid first either way and I have messed up several times they turn out delicious, and there's always enough for leftovers chicken and clouds is a hit in our household

My husband and I 85 and 81 both still cook and use pc all the time
Still loved all the recipes we used to get on the box. Especially the dumplings. We do forget measurements sometimes. We still own and operate a large company and enjoy bisquick in a variety of ways. Please help other seniors that aren't in our position. Put it back on the box. It's obviously the most popular recipe. Thank you!

anonymous

Please put me down for one vote to put the recipe back on the box. I put Bisquick dumplings on left over chicken stew for the second night serving. It was a hit. So glad the recipe was easy to find on my pc. but would have been easier had it been on the box where my mom said it was.

I remember my mom making bisquick dumplings best dumpings on the planet been eating bisquick dumplings for over 50 yeara.

anonymous

I had to go on site for the dumpling recipe because I forgot the amount of milk to mix. Not on box. Didn’t have time to look up recipe so had the baked biscuits. Not as good with the stew as dumplings. I’m 86. Please put it back on where it used to be. Takes so little space and effort to make old people happy. Thank you

I just made dumplings tonite. They always have turned out beautiful for me. Tonite i had some that were what I call dough balls. Hard and sticky. Three out of 17 you could not eat. It rained today would that be the problem? Also cold outside. Lilly White SLC Ut.

It would be great to have the recipe for dumplings back on the box. Thank goodness my daughter has a smart phone and googled it.

anonymous

Notice: you don't need an exact measurement to cook

Mix the 2 ingredients until it looks like dough

Cook until it looks done

After I cook the dumplings according to the recipe 10 minutes on top of the stove 7 minutes with the lid on then I put them in the broiler for about 5 minutes you have to watch them close and let them get a little bit crispy on top I love them like that

Jean

If you want fluffy dumplings, after you mix it put a tea towel over the bowl and put it in a warm place for 20 minutes before spooning into the stew. The dough will rise slightly and make for incredibly fluffy dumplings. I also add some dried basil to the mix.

Yes it makes the best

I'm actually making chicken and dumplings right now. I roast a whole chicken, pull all the meat off, then put what's left of the whole chicken, bones and skin in my instant pot with celery, carrots, onion, crushed garlic cloves and a potato along with parsley ,basil, rosemary, cracked black pepper, and sea salt. Cook 30 min. Release steam, strain broth and taste to season more. Back to the instant pit with the yummy broth. Add celery onion carrots potatoes. Cook on high 20 min. Now its in the stock pot on the stove. Added all the chicken meat too. The only thing I'm not making from scratch are the dumplings. Gave to be Bisquick!

can I get blueberry dumplings from this?

Definitely

Put the recipe for dumplings back on the box. I know it but my kids and grandkids don’t

anonymous

You don't need a recipe for this. Just dump some Bisquick in the bowl and add milk til it is a good consistency to drop. I drop it on the liquid. Works fine.

Todd

I have been making the same recipe for many years! My grandmother used to make them from the bisquick recipe and family loved it.
Only thing I have done to change the recipe is. I fry the chicken breast (seasoned, of course) before cubing the breasts. It locks the flavor into the meat! So satisfying.

anonymous

Can you reheat? I’m making them for tomorrow.

Peritwinkle

Drop dumplings are best when fresh and do not refrigerate well, in my experience. I’ve never tried to freeze them, but I don’t see that working out either.

Cari Lindsley

I actually followed the 10 uncovered, 10 covered recipe exactly and wow! I don't have any experience with homemade dumplings but could they be any better? I doubt it. Usually I make ribs and cut off the left over meat in as big of chunks as possible. I put them in a kettle with enough water to almost cover and add a TBSP of really good beef bullion. Then I add the Bavarian style sauerkraut and simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Then I add a little thickening to make 'sauerkraut gravy'. I immediately add the premixed dumpling dough and cook as directed.

Tommi

Add dill and sage to the mix

Is Bisquick available in the UK? I used it for years in the USA and cannot obtain in the UK.

anonymous

Without question, if you want outstanding chik and dumplings....put dumplings in stew until done....remove them to a pan....this keeps them from sinking....at that point add a bit of halh and halh to the broth.....serve dumplings in bowl, pour goodness over them....you're welcome

TKY

I always use sage and salt and pepper in my chicken soup with this dumpling recipe. It's the best!

Bev

I’ve made these dumplings since I was a newlywed and coming up on 60 years. I have been altering and tweaking recipes for years, however, other than adding seasoning I don’t mess with my bisquick dumplings…. Therefore, I too was annoyed when the recipe was removed from the box… Checking recipes and proportions is not an inexperienced cook, in the case of these dumplings it’s making sure of positive outcomes every time!!

anonymous

I only make dumplings using Bisquick and I use milk not water or chicken broth. I also drop them in my boiling broth and do not stir or mix once dropped. Turn heat down to simmer and cover

anonymous

2 cans creme of chicken soup. 2 cans of water and one can of milk. bring to simmer. Drop dumplings. I use white pepper and salt for soup. Add leftover chicken. Great for a snowy day.

anonymous

I add white pepper and sage to my dumplings and cook as directed 10 min. Uncovered then cover and cook 10 more minutes. Yum

My great aunt Millie used to make chicken and dumplings when we would come over for Saturday dinner. It is one of my fondest memories eating dinner with my great grandmother, my great aunt, and my grandmother, as well as my mom and siblings. She always use Bisquick drop dumplings and so that’s how I learned to do it some 50 years ago. I’ve tried other dumplings that are made with flour and rolled out and cut into pieces. They just do not hold a candle to the Bisquick dumplings. I do miss the recipe being on the box, but after 50 years, I think I can remember how to make them without it.

Add some cheddar to your biscuit recipe.. put some melted butter with garlic powder and parsley on top and you have cheddar bay biscuits! Sooo good!

Not so much now but back in the day--I would take some of those canned whole tomatoes and put them in a pot, bring to boil, maybe add some basil, oregano could add other herbs or some onion and celery. make dumplings tossing in some parm. cheese and cook dumpling as usual but on top of tomatoes.
Like to add herbs especially when I can go snip them in the garden. Match to what you are cooking, rosemary, dill basis, oregano ....
You can also take canned peaches and add cinnamon, raisins, ginger, or whatever you like to them. make the dumpling mix and add a touch of sugar some of the same spices you added to the peaches if you want and cook as usual. You can add some butter to the peaches to make the dish richer. Nice last-minute snack or dessert.

dense dumplings --- you overmixed (same reason pancakes are rubbery instead of fluffy)

drop on stew (vs in liquid) --- hot liquid splashes and burns

I make black raspberry dumplings instead of cobbler sometimes. Yummy

I always use milk instead of water. I add the milk by look but I'm 78 and have been using bisquick for my chicken and dumplings for 57 years now. I don't make them as often now as when my kids were at home so I have too refresh for the 10 uncovered and 10 covered.

Marlene.

My Mama was a short order cook back in the day and an old cook made the Bisquick dumplings but he did NOT cook the dumpling directly on/in the stew/soup. He use a pie pan with holes in the bottom (used by commercial bakers to better brown the pie crust bottom and brown it). He placed it over the rim of the pot (don't float it) and place the dumplings on it so there is room between them. Cover and steam them over the soup/stew. Add them into the hot bowl of soup/stew before serving. This kept them from getting soggy in a restaurant setting.
