This is a no-frills chicken puree built for babies starting on protein, toddlers transitioning to chunkier textures, or anyone on a soft-food diet recovering from dental work or surgery. Everything goes into one pot, simmers gently, and pulses smooth in the food processor.

The ingredient list is short on purpose. Skinless boneless chicken breast keeps things lean and low-fat. Carrots and peas bring vitamins and natural sweetness without overwhelming a developing palate. The macaroni adds quick-digesting carbs and helps thicken the puree to a spoonable consistency.

No salt, no seasoning, no fat. For babies under 12 months, salt should be avoided entirely, and unseasoned vegetables and proteins let them experience real food flavors clearly. Older eaters can add a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon at the table.

The water-or-stock liquid is the trick. Cooking everything in just 2 cups means the chicken poaches gently, the carrots cook through, and almost no nutrition leaks out into discarded broth. Save any leftover liquid to thin the puree to a custard-like texture for younger babies, or leave it thicker for older ones.

Kitchen Tips

  • Cut the chicken into small chunks before simmering. Whole pieces don’t poach evenly and make pureeing harder.
  • Use unsalted homemade or low-sodium store stock for added flavor without sodium.
  • Test for tenderness before pureeing. Carrots should mash with a fork; chicken should fall apart easily.
  • Freeze portions in ice cube trays for easy serving sizes. Pop out a cube or two and warm gently.

Variations

  • Swap macaroni for cooked rice or quinoa for a gluten-free version.
  • Add a peeled, cubed sweet potato for a sweeter, vitamin-rich variation.
  • For older toddlers, pulse instead of puree to leave small soft chunks they can chew.
