1 hrsThink of this as a stromboli’s cozy cousin. Frozen bread dough gets rolled out, loaded with seasoned chicken, broccoli, and a generous pile of shredded cheddar, then folded up and baked until the crust turns golden and the cheese goes all gooey inside.
Slice it open and you get that gorgeous cross-section of melty filling wrapped in warm, pillowy bread.
It’s the kind of meal that works for a casual weeknight dinner, game day snacking, or packed lunches the next day.
Use up leftover chicken, turkey, or even ham to make it even easier.
Variations
- Swap chicken for diced ham or leftover Thanksgiving turkey.
- Use honey wheat dough instead of white for a nuttier, slightly sweet crust.
- Add a layer of cream cheese or ranch dressing inside for extra richness.
Pro Tips
- Drain the thawed broccoli thoroughly. Excess moisture will make the dough soggy from the inside out.
- If the dough keeps springing back when you roll it, let it rest for 5 minutes uncovered, then try again.
- Place the loaf seam-side down on the baking sheet so it stays sealed while it bakes.
- Tap the top when you think it’s done. A hollow sound means the bread is cooked through.
Ingredients
Directions
Let frozen bread dough thaw until pliable.
Meanwhile, prepare filling.
In a medium size bowl, combine meat, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix well. Set aside.
On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out to a 14- by 9-inch rectangle. (If dough shrinks back after rolling let dough rest a few minutes, then roll again.)
Evenly top dough with meat mixture lengthwise down center third of dough.
Top with broccoli and cheese.
Fold up sides of dough and seal.
Place dough on a greased baking sheet seam side down.
Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on.
Remove loaf pan from pan; cool on wire rack. Slice and serve.
