Whole roasted chicken glazed with sweet honey and warm curry spices creates crispy golden skin over tender meat. Clove-studded onion inside perfumes the bird as it roasts.
Hearty mushroom barley soup with fall-off-the-bone short ribs and fresh dill creates a soul-warming one-pot meal for cold evenings.
Creamy potato chard soup pureed smooth with thyme, dill, and parsley. A naturally vegan, dairy-free soup where the potatoes create all the creaminess without cream.
So to start off with the first post, I decided to make a meal that screams of comfort food. Whilst it does take a bit of a while to get the meal done, once you take that first bite, heaven couldn’t seem closer if you were Adam trying to touch God’s finger in the “Creation of Adam” fresco created by Michaelangelo. The meal I speak of is Cottage Pie. There is much debate as to what exactly a cottage pie is and how it is different to a Shepherd’s pie...I don’t know. The dominant theory is that Sheperds pie uses lamb mince, whilst a cottage pie uses beef mince. I don’t know about you, but the term “Sheperds Pie” does not get my tastebuds going quite as well, so I prefer the term cottage pie. Besides, comparing the price of ground (mince) beef to ground lamb, a student would pick up the beef mince in a heartbeat without even so much as glancing at the lamb in the meat section. This cottage pie that I made is full of flavour, and just makes you want to cuddle up next to a fire and watch TCM movies all day either by yourself, or with a significant other. Here is the recipe:
Flaky buttermilk biscuits with fresh parsley, chives, and oregano. Cold butter cut into flour creates tall, layered biscuits with an herb-flecked crumb.
Simple 3-ingredient turkey basting mixture for microwave-cooked turkey. Butter, paprika, and brown gravy mix create golden color and savory flavor.
Bread machine bran bread loaded with raisins, figs, and walnuts creates a hearty, fiber-rich loaf perfect for toast, sandwiches, or healthy breakfast spreads.
This comforting Crockpot Lentil-Kale Soup is a wholesome, nutrient-packed dish featuring tender lentils, vibrant kale, and a medley of vegetables simmered in a flavorful broth. With minimal prep, the slow cooker does the work, creating a thick, stew-like soup that’s perfect for chilly days or a healthy weeknight meal. The addition of miso paste and herbs like thyme and bay leaf elevates the flavor, making this a satisfying, plant-based option for the whole family.
Bread dough braided around spaghetti, meat sauce, and cheese cubes creates a showstopping stromboli-style dinner that looks harder than it is.
Bakery-sized chocolate chunk cookies loaded with macadamia nuts and pecans. Hand-chopped chocolate creates melty pockets in a buttery, chewy cookie.
Old-fashioned oatmeal cookies loaded with figs, nuts, and warm spices create hearty, chewy treats perfect for holiday baking or lunchbox snacks.
Creamy split pea soup blending green and yellow peas with fresh fennel, leeks, and thyme creates a silky vegetarian bowl of comfort.
Traditional fermented beet kvass, the tangy ruby-red base for authentic borscht. Just beets, water, and a slice of bread create this Old World staple in 4 to 5 days.
Whip up this easy cherry cobbler in under an hour with pantry staples. The batter rises around tart cherries as it bakes, creating a fruity, pudding-like center with golden edges. Serve warm with ice cream.
Classic Italian carbonara with pancetta, eggs, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Pecorino Romano tossed with hot pasta. The residual heat creates a silky, creamy sauce with no cream added.
Self-crusting coconut pie that mixes in one bowl, pours into the pan, and forms its own crust as it bakes. Eggs, milk, butter, and coconut create a custardy slice with a tender brown bottom. The recipe makes two pies.
