75 minA pound cake mix, a knife swirl, and a little chocolate magic turn out a marble cake that looks way more impressive than the effort it takes.
The batter gets split in two: one half swirled with melted semi-sweet chocolate, the other spiced with cinnamon. Layer them in a loaf pan, drag a knife through, and let the oven do the rest.
The cinnamon-chocolate glaze on top seals the deal with a glossy, pourable drizzle of melted chocolate, butter, powdered sugar, and a whisper of cinnamon.
It’s a great shortcut bake for potlucks or after-dinner coffee.
Kitchen Tips
- Cool the melted chocolate slightly before stirring it into the batter. Hot chocolate can cook the eggs in the mix and create lumps.
- Don’t over-swirl. Two or three passes with a knife give you clean, dramatic marbling. Too many passes just muddy the colors together.
- Add hot water to the glaze a teaspoon at a time until it flows off a spoon in a thin ribbon. Too much water and it slides right off the cake.
