Directions
Part 1: Mix together the brown sugar, chocolate and 1 cup milk in pan.
Let it come to a boil, stirring until thick.
Remove from heat and cool.
Part 2: Cream brown sugar, butter, and egg yolks until very light.
Add milk, flour, vanilla, baking powder and mix.
Mix this with Part 1 mixture and then with egg whites which have been whipped with a pinch of salt.
Pour into three well butter and floured 9-inch cake pans.
Bake at 350℉ (180℃) until centers spring back when touched, about 20 to 25 minutes.
Cool 5 minutes in pans. Turn out on cooling rack and cool completely.
Spread even layer of filling onto each cake. Stack them together.
Filling:
Place all filling ingredients except vanilla in pan and cook to soft ball stage.
Add vanilla. Beat until cool.
