15 minThis chilled fruit cocktail is as simple as it gets: seedless grapes bathed in a blend of fresh orange juice and lime juice, served ice-cold in sherbet glasses with a sprig of mint. No cooking, no added sugar if the juice is sweet enough on its own.
The trick is chilling everything thoroughly before assembly. Cold grapes and cold juice together create a crisp, refreshing bite that warm fruit simply can’t deliver. Give the grapes a full chill in the fridge and mix the juices ahead of time so everything is ready to pour.
The lime juice is what keeps this from tasting flat. That sharp citrus edge cuts the sweetness of the orange juice and grapes, giving the cocktail a balanced, grown-up flavor. Taste the juice blend before pouring and add a touch of sugar only if it needs it.
Kitchen Tips
- Use the sweetest grapes you can find. Red, green, or a mix of both all work well
- Assemble no more than 30 minutes before serving so the grapes stay firm and don’t get waterlogged
- Fresh-squeezed orange juice makes a noticeable difference over store-bought
- Serve in clear glasses to show off the color
Variations
- Add a splash of sparkling water or prosecco for a fizzy, celebratory version
- Toss in a few fresh berries or sliced kiwi for more color and variety
- Freeze the grapes before serving for an extra-icy, slushy texture
