The dough is a classic brown sugar oatmeal base that’s sturdy enough to shape by hand. Divide it into four portions and pat each one into a snowman shape right on the cookie sheet, about a quarter inch thick.
After baking, let them cool completely and then turn the kids loose with frosting, candy eyes, mini M&Ms, pretzel stick arms, whatever your decorating stash has to offer.
Four big snowman cookies means everyone gets their own to decorate.
Kitchen Tips
- Pat the dough to an even quarter-inch thickness so the snowmen bake evenly. Thin spots will overbake while thick spots stay doughy.
- Let them cool on the sheet for 2 minutes first. They’re fragile when hot and will break if you try to move them too soon.
- Decorate only after cooling completely. Frosting melts on warm cookies and slides right off.
