One-pot cheesy tuna and rice with dill and parsley, ready in 30 minutes. Melted American cheese makes the sauce gooey and kid-friendly. A pantry-staple dinner when time is tight.

This is the dinner you make when the fridge is bare but the pantry still has your back.

Canned tuna, instant rice, American cheese, and a handful of seasonings come together in one pot in about 30 minutes. The cheese melts into the milky cooking liquid to create a gooey, comforting sauce that coats every grain of rice.

Dill and parsley keep it from tasting flat, and the whole thing comes together with almost zero effort.

Kids love it. Tired parents love it more.

Kitchen Tips

  • Drain the tuna well before stirring it in. Extra liquid makes the rice soggy.
  • Let the pot sit covered for the full 5 minutes so the rice absorbs all the liquid properly.
  • American cheese melts the smoothest, but you can swap in Velveeta or a sharp cheddar if that’s what you have.
  • Add frozen peas or broccoli florets during the standing time for a one-pot meal with built-in vegetables.
