Made this soup a few days ago. I absolutely loved it, and enjoyed it. I did not detect any nasty smell that one of the previous reviewers mentioned. Instead it came out very tasty and flavourful.

Directions

Place carrots, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, green beans, peppers, and celery in a large pot.

Add onion soup mix, tomato juice, broth, and enough water to cover vegetables.

Simmer until vegetables are tender. Serve.

I don't want to join this website just to comment so I'll post it here. Mmmm! Great soup! I swap out crushed tomatoes for the whole canned ones, beef broth for the chicken, and toss in a couple dozen frozen meatballs (I'm not in this for weight loss) which were thawed and given flavor in onion soup preparation, which is my own first step before adding everything else.
