This is the spritz cookie recipe grandma made, using whole eggs for a richer, more tender crumb.

Pure vanilla extract shines through in every bite, complementing the buttery base without competing flavors.

The dough pipes beautifully through a cookie press, holding intricate shapes that bake up golden and crisp around the edges.

Pro Tips

  • Use pure vanilla extract rather than imitation for the cleanest, truest flavor
  • Make sure your margarine is softened but not melted; it should hold a fingerprint but not be greasy
  • Whip the eggs well before adding to create a lighter texture in the finished cookies
  • Bake until just golden around the edges; overbaking makes them dry instead of tender
