30 minWhen it’s too hot to bake, this no-fuss parfait delivers a showstopping dessert with zero oven time. Pillowy angel food cake, juicy strawberries, creamy pudding, and whipped topping get layered into a glass bowl for a light, airy trifle.
The key is in the layering and the cake. Tearing the angel food into medium pieces, rather than cubing it neatly, gives it craggy edges that soak up the juice from the strawberries and the pudding, so it goes soft and flavorful instead of dry. Build the layers in a clear glass bowl so all those pretty strata show through, which is half the appeal.
It actually gets better with a little time in the fridge, as the cake absorbs the surrounding flavors and the whole thing melds. Garnish with fresh berries right before serving.
Kitchen Tips
- Tear the cake into rough pieces so it soaks up the pudding and strawberry juices.
- Use a clear glass bowl so the colorful layers are on full display.
- Let it chill an hour or two before serving so the cake softens and the flavors come together.
Variations
- Use vanilla, cheesecake, or white chocolate pudding for different flavors.
- Swap in or add other berries: raspberries, blueberries, or a mix.
- Drizzle with strawberry sauce or add a layer of cream cheese filling for richness.
