This simple Russian soup lets fresh codfish shine in a creamy, milk-based broth that’s pure comfort in a bowl.

Cod fillets simmer gently in milk and cream just until they flake, seasoned with nothing more than salt and pepper. The fish stays tender and the broth stays pale and delicate.

Serve it hot in deep bowls for a light but satisfying soup that warms you from the inside out.

Pro Tips

  • Remove all bones carefully before cutting fish into pieces
  • Heat to scalding but don’t let it boil or the milk will curdle
  • Season generously since fish and dairy both need salt
  • Serve immediately for best texture and temperature
