5 minPart smoothie, part milkshake, this frosty banana blend lands somewhere gloriously in between, thick enough to need a spoon but easy enough to sip through a straw.
There’s no secret technique, just a smart loading order: milk first so the blades spin freely, then ice, bananas, and vanilla ice cream on top. Starting with the liquid keeps everything moving and saves you from scraping down a stuck blender.
Ripe bananas are the move if you want big banana flavor; the browner and spottier they are, the sweeter and more fragrant the shake.
Want it thicker? Lean on more ice cream and ice. Thinner and more drinkable? Add a splash more milk. You’re in full control of the consistency, so blend to whatever your spoon-or-straw mood calls for.
Kitchen Tips
- Add the milk to the blender first so the blades catch and everything purees smoothly.
- Use over-ripe bananas for the sweetest, most banana-forward flavor.
- Freeze the banana pieces ahead for an even thicker, frostier shake without watering it down.
- Blend in short pulses to keep the texture thick rather than over-thinning it.
Variations
- Add a spoonful of peanut butter or a handful of chocolate chips.
- Use chocolate or strawberry ice cream for a different shake.
- Blend in a pinch of cinnamon or a shot of espresso for grown-up flavor.
