2 hrsA thick, frosty chocolate banana shake with peanut butter richness and zero ice cream. The trick is freezing both the banana and the soda into ice cubes beforehand. Blending frozen banana with the chocolate shake mix and peanut butter creates a creamy base, and adding frozen soda cubes one at a time thickens the whole thing into a milkshake-like consistency.
Freezing the soda into cubes instead of using regular ice means the shake doesn’t water down as it melts. Every sip stays flavorful from first to last.
Adding the frozen cubes one at a time is important. Dumping them all in at once overwhelms the blender and leaves chunks of unblended ice.
Kitchen Tips
- Freeze the banana solid, at least 2 hours. A partially frozen banana blends into a thin, runny shake.
- Use smooth peanut butter, not chunky. Chunky leaves bits that don’t blend fully.
- Scrape down the blender sides as needed. The thick mixture climbs the walls and avoids the blades.
- Serve immediately. This shake melts fast and goes from thick to soupy in minutes.
