Butter Cookies are one of those traditional Christmas cookies that everyone adores. This homemade butter cookie recipe is much better than what you find in the tins at the store during the holidays.

Directions

Cream together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until fluffy.

Add the eggs and vanilla, beating in well.

Sift the flour and baking powder to combine; blend into creamed butter and egg mixture.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. The dough may also be stored in the freezer for up to 6 months and used as needed.

Preheat your oven to 425℉ (220℃).

Roll out portions of dough to a ⅛ inch thickness on a lightly floured surface, board, or pastry cloth.

Maintain the remaining dough refrigerated until ready to use.

Cut into rounds with a 2½-inch circular cutter - or cut into any desired same with cookie cutters of your choice; arrange one inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake for about 5 to 7 minutes or until lightly golden brown on the edges.

Cool on wire racks.
