Billion dollar chocolate bars, a homemade candy bar in four layers: a chocolate-peanut butter base, fluffy peanut nougat, gooey caramel, and a chocolate top. Like a candy-shop Snickers, made at home.

This is a homemade candy bar that tastes like it came from a chocolatier, built in four no-bake layers that stack into pure candy-shop indulgence. It starts and ends with a melted blend of milk chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and peanut butter, the same mixture top and bottom, that sets into a snappy shell.

In between go the showstopper layers. A fluffy peanut nougat comes together from boiled sugar, evaporated milk, and marshmallow creme studded with salted peanuts, while a gooey caramel layer melts down from candy caramels, cream, and butter.

Patience is the secret here: each layer gets chilled to set before the next goes on, which is what gives you those clean, distinct stripes instead of a melted jumble. The payoff is a rich, chewy, crunchy bar that rivals any candy at the store. Cut into small squares, because it’s intensely rich.

Pro Tips

  • Chill each layer until firm before adding the next. Rushing it melts the layers into each other instead of clean stripes.
  • Line the pan with plastic wrap or parchment with overhang so you can lift the whole slab out to cut cleanly.
  • Cut into small squares with a warm, dry knife. This bar is very rich, and a warmed blade gives neat edges.

Variations

  • Substitute peanut butter chips for the butterscotch chips in one or both chocolate layers.
  • Leave the peanuts out for a smooth, nut-free nougat, or keep them for crunch.
  • Sprinkle flaky salt over the top chocolate layer before it sets for a salted-candy finish.

Directions

Bottom Chocolate Layer:

Melt milk chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and peanut butter in a pan over low heat; stirring constantly.

Pour mixture into a 9 x 13? baking pan lightly coated with nonstick spray or lined with plastic wrap which is long enough to drape over sides of the pan.

Spread mixture and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Nougat Layer:

Melt butter over medium heat in pan; add sugars and evaporated milk; bring to a boil, and cook additional 5 minutes while stirring.

Remove from the heat and add marshmallow creme and peanut butter.

Pour over the bottom layer and gently spread mixture.

If you use peanuts, scatter across the top. Place in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes.

Caramel Layer:

Place the unwrapped caramel candy, butter, and cream in a medium saucepan.

Place over low heat and stir until the mixture has completely melted and is smooth.

Pour in the pan and quickly spread over nougat layer.

Place in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes.

Melt milk chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and peanut butter in a pan over low heat, stirring consistently.

Pour over the caramel layer and spread. Place in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares. Store in an air-tight container.

NOTE: You can substituted peanut butter chips for the butterscotch chip in one or both layers. Even though you can’t see the peanuts, they are in this batch.
