This recipe comes straight from Denny Trease, Kansas City Royals broadcaster, and it’s got that brilliant make-ahead magic busy hosts need.

Crabmeat blended with butter, sharp cheddar, and a hint of garlic gets spread on English muffin halves, frozen in wedges, then broiled straight from the freezer whenever you need them.

Ten minutes under the broiler and you’ve got hot, crispy-edged appetizers that taste like you fussed.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use real crabmeat, not imitation, for the best flavor
  • Cut muffins into 4 wedges each before freezing for perfect bite-sized pieces
  • Freeze on a cookie sheet first, then transfer to bags so they don’t stick together
  • Watch closely during broiling, they can go from golden to burnt quickly
