This was a common meal in German blue collar working class families. It is still very popular on buffets, and even used to become "hip" recently for people who got bored with mussels, salmon or caviar on buffets. People in old times often did not use ground meat, but ground cheap meat leftovers. This used to be pub food in the very old times in Germany as you could store it for a long time - no fridge was around at that time, only a pantry. It is perfect as a cold snack for long road trips.
It's the weekend but freezing out and I wanted BBQ and fries without all the greasyness. So I grabbed some chicken legs out the freezer and some regular french fries. Realized I had a sweet potatoe left by the fruit and got to cooking. For the BBQ sauce I went with what I had which was a thicker base (Sweet Baby Rays) and a thinner one (Lizard Lick). They were on sale at the time when grocery shopping along with being Gluten free so I went with it. My measurements are definitely just a guide because I just throw as I go lol.
This is one of my absolute favorite things to make at this time of year. It takes almost no time to prepare, so I’ll whip up a big batch on my day off and then all I have to do when I get home is put it in a bowl or mash it up and put it on toasted bread drizzled with some olive oil. It also makes a great appetizer along with some homemade or store-bought pita chips. Honestly, when serving this as a dip or a spread, I don’t even bother taking out my food processor, I just use the bottom of a glass and mash it a bit.

Aaaah, facon (or fake bacon). Some are hit-and-miss, but because bacon is the one thing most people miss when switching to a vegetarian or vegan way-of-life, it’s expected a fitting alternative is created. The others you may have attempted can trot along, because here is a recipe that not only offers a completely meat-free bacon, but one that is low in fat and overall calories. To mimic the intoxicating aroma that we have come to love in the real thing, we used a combination of liquid smoke and paprika to achieve similar results cleverly using rice paper. While it takes a little longer, the efforts will be worth it – and your hips will thank you. And, so will Peppa.
Whether you say tomayto or tomahto, whether you consider the tomato a fruit or a vegetable, one thing is for sure, tomato dishes are an essential for men – several studies have supported the link between lycopene in tomatoes and the prevention of prostate cancer. Along the coast of the Southern US eating Hoppin' John on New Year's Day is thought to bring a year filled with luck and prosperity. The beans symbolize coins or pennies. Sometimes a penny is added to the pot or can be left under the bowls of Hoppin' John. Greens such as Collards, chard or kale can be added and symbolize the color of money and are said to add to ones wealth in the new year. The day after New Year's Day the leftovers are called "Skippin' Jenny," and further demonstrates one's frugality. A common tradition in the south US is each person at the meal should leave three peas on their plate to ensure the New Year will be filled with Luck, Fortune and Romance. Another tradition holds that counting the number of peas in a serving predicts the amount of luck (or wealth) that will be collected over the next year.
