30 minYour dog deserves better than mystery-ingredient biscuits from a bag. These pumpkin treats come together with a handful of pantry staples and let you know exactly what your pup is eating. Canned pumpkin is the star, gentle on dog tummies and a flavor most dogs go wild for.
Whole wheat flour gives the biscuits their sturdy, crunchy body, while a little molasses and oil bind the dough and add a touch of sweetness. Cinnamon is optional and dog-safe in this small amount.
Mix, roll, and cut with a cookie cutter (a bone or paw shape is half the fun), then bake until firm. They keep in the freezer for up to six months, so one batch lasts a good while. Just thaw a few minutes before treating your best friend.
Kitchen Tips
- Use plain canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling. Pie filling has added sugar and spices like nutmeg that aren’t good for dogs.
- Roll the dough thin for crunchier biscuits that store longer, or thicker for a softer treat that’s easier on older dogs.
- Bake a little longer for a harder, crunchier biscuit. Drier treats keep better and are gentler on teeth.
Variations
- Add a spoonful of dog-safe peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free) for extra flavor.
- Stir in shredded carrot or a little mashed banana for variety.
- Skip the cinnamon entirely if your dog has a sensitive stomach.
