This genius mash-up layers frozen strawberries and ripe banana slices with brown sugar and apple pie spice, then tops everything with custard-soaked french bread that bakes up crispy and golden. The fruit turns jammy and syrupy underneath while the bread gets those coveted crunchy edges.
Prep it the night before and pop it in a hot oven come morning. Your kitchen will smell like a bakery crossed with a pie shop, and you’ll serve something that looks impressively fancy but required almost zero morning effort.
Kitchen Tips
- Frozen strawberries work better than fresh here since they release more juice to create that syrupy base
- Use very ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and soft texture
- The high oven temp (450°F) is intentional for quick caramelization and crispy tops
- Lift bread slices carefully with a spatula and spoon that jammy fruit mixture right over the top
