| 1 | pound | ground beef | |
| 1/3 | cup | bread crumbs | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | black pepper | |
| 1 | each | egg | |
| 1 | each | onion | sliced |
| 1 | each | beef stock | canned, 10 1/2 ounces, prefer veal stock if possible |
| 1 | each | mushrooms, canned | pieces (4 oz) |
| 2 | tablespoons | water | cold |
| 2 | teaspoons | cornstarch |
Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and egg; shape into 4 oval patties, each about 3/4 inch thick. Cook patties in 10 in skillet over medium heat, turning occasionally, until brown, about ten minutes; drain. Add onion, broth and mushrooms. Heat to boliling, reduce heat and simmer until beef is done, about 10 minutes.
Remove patties, keep warm. Heat onion mixture to boiling. Mix water and cornstarch; stir into onion mixture. Boil and stir 1 minute serve over patties.

Tasty, classic Salisbury recipe with the added ingredient of rice (makes the patty more tenderer). Side note I did not notice until I was half way in the recipe that I needed "cooked" rice. I accidently made 1/2 raw rice which expanded to about 1 c. Make sure to only add 1/2 c. "cooked" rice. I will definitely make this recipe again.!
