| 1/2 | cup | butter | |
| 1/2 | cup | vegetable shortening | |
| 2 | large | eggs | |
| 2 | cups | applesauce | |
| 3 | tablespoons | cocoa powder | |
| 1 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1 | teaspoon | cinnamon | |
| 1 | teaspoon | cloves | scant |
| 3 | teaspoons | baking soda | |
| 4 | cups | flour, all-purpose | sifted |
| 1 | cup | raisins, seedless | dates or nuts |
Cream butter, shorteing, sugar and eggs.
Add sifted flour, cocoa, salt and spices alternately with the applesauce.
Add soda in hot water.
Mix thoroughly.
Pour batter into greased 9x13: pan. Bake about 40 minutes at 350 Serve plain or with whipped cream.

General:Marjoram is the gray-green leaf of Majorana hortensis, a low growing member of the mint family. It is often mistaken for oregano, although they are not the same plant....
Quick and easy. My children love them and I have become addicted to them.:)
