This is a real ice cream that can beat Hagen daz. It's silky and creamy, toasted almonds infused custard has a rich and delicious almond taste. Toasted almond chunks being added at the end of the churning give the ice cream another layer of nutty and rich almond flavor and a little crunchiness when you have it in your mouth. A pure indulgence and enjoyment.
Rice paper is a healthy low calorie option in comparison to other wheat based products. This delicate translucent dumpling allows the diner to see the colourful nutritious vegetables which are bursting with vitamins. Another serving option is to create a rice wrap by leaving the one end open allowing the vegetables to cascade on to the plate creating a delicious display.
The English muffin flavor of the bread was spot on and the texture wasn't too bad as it still had some nooks and crannies. Amazing, considering it was such a flat loaf. I will most definitely be making another attempt at this, but only when I'm completely alone in my kitchen. I'm sure my next try will be totally successful. Thank you, for this wonderful recipe.
Semifreddo is another popular dessert in Australia besides pavlova that I made a few days ago. Semifreddo is basically made with egg yolks and heavy cream, it's rich, silky and decadent. Fruits, chocolate or nuts all can be added into the base, pour into a loaf pan, then simply freeze it until it's firm. It's usually served with fruits, or fruit sauce, or candied nuts.
A breakfast staple made with organic spelt flour, coconut oil and natural sweetener. Serve with maple syrup on the side and fresh berries or bananas or organic yoghurt. Another option is to soften some apple slices in a little bit of water, vanilla and dash of maple syrup until the liquid reduces and the apples are soft. Sprinkle liberally with cinnamon – reminiscent of apple pie!
I recently came across another way to use up some of those cartons of oats and bags of bran spilling out of my pantry. Brandi of Bran Appetit posted an intriguing recipe for Brandi's Cookie Bars. I used her recipe with a few changes to make cookie bars of my own. Please visit Brandi's blog for the original recipe. And if you're a fan of oatmeal cookies and chocolate, make these now! During the fall and winter I make homemade soup once a week. I’ve got dozens of delicious soup recipes, but the Pizza Soup was the favorite of our sons, Keith and Mark. It’s really easy to make. I apologize for the inexact quantities, but this is another recipe that I’ve never written down…and haven’t made it since last winter! I’ve given the basic recipe, but don’t be afraid to add other items you enjoy on your pizza…including a dash of red pepper sauce!
These gluten free slices of zesty lemon goodness really are hard to resist. They’re light, tangy and the perfect accompaniment to a nice cup of tea. To make the lemon topping you’ll need to use a brand of coconut milk that doesn’t contain emulsifiers (guar gum, carrageenan, methyl cellulose, corn starch, sodium or potassium metabisulfate) as these are chemical additives which cause the fatty and watery layers to stop separating from one another, so you won’t be able to achieve the thick creamy consistency required.
Not that we need an excuse to eat this delicious dish but National Fish and Chip day is as good as any. Another good reason is for the health benefits, people who eat fish regularly have a lower risk of heart disease. Cod or haddock are a good source of protein which delays stomach emptying, this helps to stop sudden increases in sugar levels. These fish contain Omega-3 fatty acids which are good blood thinners and many B vitamins. Who said fish and chips weren’t healthy? We aren’t waiting for the 2nd June!
Let’s run down the list of heart-healthy ingredients joining harmoniously in this powerful breakfast smoothie: Avocados-support a healthy cardiovascular system. In addition, avocados provide plenty of B6 and folic acid, which regulate homocysteine levels, another component to heart health. Strawberries-A healthy fiber intake is crucial to maintaining good cholesterol levels, contain powerful antioxidants. Dates Dates provide much of the fiber and potassium in this smoothie. Studies suggest that consuming 400mg of potassium per day can reduce the risk of stroke by 40% Hemp Hearts-They are the only plant source known to contain all of the necessary amino acids and fatty acids in the most desirable ratio for human needs. They are also comprised of 40% fiber.
We’re sure you’ll be converted to this healthy substantial burger option once you try it, we are also sure that you won’t only be eating it on the 31st August – National Burger Day. Flaxseeds or linseeds are small oilseeds that originated in the Middle East thousands of years ago. Flaxseeds have a high content of Omega-3 which is good for heart health and they are 29% Carbohydrate, of this, a massive 95% is fibre which is good for digestion. They contain many vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids so understandably they are becoming more popular. Be aware though – they do not contain Lysine so they cannot be considered a protein source, but this can be found in another ingredient, the black bean. A great alternative burger recipe!
Fresh mango salsa with red peppers, cilantro, and garlic pulsed in a food processor, then tossed over chilled rice vermicelli. A bright, no-cook summer pasta dish.
Another tasty pickling recipe that you can pass on to your sweet Grandmother.
Nothing is better than a warm pumpkin soup at your Thanksgiving menu.
Along the coast of the Southern US eating Hoppin' John on New Year's Day is thought to bring a year filled with luck and prosperity. The beans symbolize coins or pennies. Sometimes a penny is added to the pot or can be left under the bowls of Hoppin' John. Greens such as Collards, chard or kale can be added and symbolize the color of money and are said to add to ones wealth in the new year. The day after New Year's Day the leftovers are called "Skippin' Jenny," and further demonstrates one's frugality. A common tradition in the south US is each person at the meal should leave three peas on their plate to ensure the New Year will be filled with Luck, Fortune and Romance. Another tradition holds that counting the number of peas in a serving predicts the amount of luck (or wealth) that will be collected over the next year.
