20 minThis five-fruit frappe is pure summer in a glass. Watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, mango, and strawberries all get blended with orange juice and crushed ice into a thick, slushy drink that’s naturally sweet with just a small boost of sugar.
The key is blending in batches. Filling the blender only halfway with the fruit mixture and topping it off with crushed ice gives the blade room to work and creates a smoother, more uniform texture. Cramming everything in at once leaves chunks and ice shards.
Serve immediately. This isn’t something you can make ahead. The ice melts, the fruit separates, and you lose that thick, frosty consistency within minutes. Pour it into chilled glasses and drink it while it’s still slushy.
Each fruit brings something different to the blend. Watermelon and cantaloupe add body and natural sweetness, pineapple cuts through with acidity, mango gives it a creamy thickness, and strawberries add color and a tart edge.
Kitchen Tips
- Freeze the fruit in chunks the night before for an even thicker, icier frappe without diluting it with extra crushed ice.
- Taste before pouring. Depending on how ripe your fruit is, you may need less sugar or none at all.
- Use a high-speed blender if you have one. It handles the ice better and gives you a smoother result.
Variations
- Add a banana for extra creaminess and natural sweetness.
- Splash in coconut milk instead of orange juice for a tropical, creamy version.
- Skip the sugar entirely and add a squeeze of lime juice for a tart, unsweetened refresher.
