Ingredients

6 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons baking powder

1 tablespoon salt
1 cup vegetable shortening

Directions

Gather together these four ingredients we need.
Add the flour, baking powder and salt in a fine sieve over a large bowl...

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt two to three times into a large bowl.

Sift them all together...
Stir well with a wooden spoon...

Cut in the shortening with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the flour mixture looks like fine crumbs.

Add butter into the flour mixture...
Until well mixed, Homemade Hearty Healthy Bisquick Mix appears.

Storage

When using shelf-stable shortening: Store the bisquick mix in a well-sealed, air-tight container in a cool place, and it lasts several months.

If using butter: Store the baking mix in a well-sealed, air-tight container in the refrigerator and use within one week.

Note: Any recipe that asks for bisquick mix, this is the mix.

Bisquick mix is such a common thing in our daily cooking, and how often do you make it from scratch, it is so quick and easy to make, and freshly made stuff just tastes a lot better. Here I did make a few changes, my bisquick mix came out hearty, nutty, tangy and healthy. What my changes here is that I used whole wheat pastry flour, half of the butter and half of the olive oil. I made 1 cup of the mix. And I used mix to make the bisquick quiche right away, and it turned out absolutely amazing, it's like a quick bread, very fluffy inside, golden brown outside, great texture and flavor. Making your own bisquick mix from scratch is definitely the way to go!
