3 hrsThese cherry squares are what happens when you want something sweet but don’t want to fuss with frosting or layers.
A simple butter cake batter gets scored into squares, each one crowned with a spoonful of cherry pie filling that bakes into jammy sweetness.
The edges crisp up golden while the centers stay soft, and that bright cherry filling adds a pop of color and tartness against all that buttery richness.
Pro Tips
- Score the batter lightly before adding cherries so you know where to cut later
- Don’t overfill with cherry filling or it will overflow during baking
- The lemon juice brightens the flavor and cuts through the sweetness
- Let them cool completely before cutting for the cleanest squares
