Crispy cheddar cheese crackers with caraway seeds, made from just 5 ingredients. These buttery, golden bites are baked in under 15 minutes for an easy homemade snack or appetizer.

Five ingredients. No mixer. Crackers that’ll make the store-bought stuff feel embarrassed.

Sharp cheddar and butter get kneaded together with flour, salt, and caraway seeds, then shaped into little clusters and baked until golden and crisp.

The caraway adds an earthy, almost rye-bread flavor that pairs ridiculously well with the sharp cheese.

This recipe makes about five dozen, which sounds like a lot until you realize how fast they vanish.

Pro Tips

  • Use the sharpest cheddar you can find. Mild cheese makes mild crackers, and nobody wants that.
  • Keep the clusters thin, about a quarter inch. Thicker ones won’t get that satisfying snap.
  • Store in an airtight container and use within 3 days. They soften quickly once exposed to air.

Ingredients

1 ½ 355
½ 118
CUP ML BUTTER
softened
½ 2.5
TEASPOON ML CARAWAY SEED
¼ 1.3
TEASPOON ML SALT
¾ 340.2
POUND G CHEDDAR CHEESE
shredded, about 3 cups

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

In large bowl, with hand, knead all ingredients until blended.

Shape dough into ½-inch balls.

On ungreased cookie sheet, place three dough balls in a cluster.

With fingers, flatten cluster to ¼ inch thickness.

Repeat with remaining balls, placing clusters about 2 inches apart.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes until lightly browned.

With pancake turner, remove cheese crisps to wire racks; cool.

Store cheese crisps in tightly covered container to use up within 3 days.

Makes about 5 dozen.
