Combination recipes

I use McIntosh or a combination of McIntosh & Cortlands as my family and I prefer a softer apple filling that holds together (I NEVER use Granny Smiths)...

This was my lunch today, packed with goodness and yumminess. I only made 1 quesadilla for myself, so I quartered the recipe. It was delicious, loved the oozing cheese and the flavorsome veggies. A great combination on both flavor and texture. I broiled the top for a few minutes to make it nice, brown and crispy. Will be making this more often for sure.

"Kohlrouladen" used to be a staple on the menu for regular people in Germany during winter time. The relatively long preparation and cooking time pays out, because it can be easily reheated over a couple of days and gets even better and tastier then. Fried potatoes complete the picture, but you can cook the potatoes also in the pot with the sauce, if there is space left. This recipe can be varied in many ways, be it the stuffing (ground meat here), or the sauce. The recipe is as traditional as it can be; the ingredients are adjusted to availability in North America (like Savoy cabbage in lieu of "Weisskohl", bacon to replace "Speckwuerfel"). For sure the ground meat can vary depending on preferences or diets - I bet quite often in the "good old times " regular people did not exactly know what's in the ground meat they got from the butcher - at least it was some meat, for most of the families only once a week.

By using mostly whole wheat flour, a combination of applesauce, butter and olive oil makes this key lime cake much healthier and lighter than your regular key lime cake. It still tastes absolutely delcious, will for sure satisfy your palate without guilt.

Rehydrated Porcini mushrooms and parmesan cheese make these gnocchi taste cheesy, earthy and flavorful. Roast the gnocchi in the oven gives the nice flavor and texture. Serving them with the sauteed mushrooms and thymes.

I created this super comfort food soup after discovering celery root (celeriac) thanks to my European husband. I combine typical American green celery stalks and leaves with celeriac, which extra enhances the soup's flavor and makes it even creamier with just milk. No real cream needed. I top mine with croutons and extra celery leaves. Can easily be made vegetarian.
