Make these nutty and chocolaty bars for a change from classic Christmas cookies. They are easy to make and come out addictively delicious. Be sure to make enough, not only kids love them, grown-ups also can't stop reaching more.

Ingredients

4 ounces hazelnuts (filberts)
3/4 cup
cup cherries, dried
coarsely chopped

2 ½ tablespoons ginger
crystallized, finely chopped
6 ½ ounces chocolate, bittersweet
chopped, null
*

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°.

Arrange hazelnuts on a baking sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through cooking.

Turn nuts out onto a towel.

Roll up towel, rub off skins.

Chop nuts Coarsely.

Mix together nuts, cherries, and ginger in a medium bowl.

Add chocolate in a microwave-safe measuring cup.

Microwave at HIGH 1 minute or until chocolate melts, stirring every 15 seconds. (Or use double boiler to melt the chocolate)

Stir into nut mixture, stirring just until combined.

Spread mixture evenly on a baking sheet lined with foil papper, freeze at least 1 hour.

Break into unevenly pieces.

Serve.

Love everything in these bars. Chocolate, hazelnuts, a bit tangy crystalized gingers and dried cherries, hmmm just by typing the words here is making my mouth watering.

They are great alternate for Christmas cookies, and no one can resist these yummy sweets.
