These sweet-and-sour green beans are a quick vegetarian side dish where frozen beans get infused with aromatic bay leaf and whole cloves.

The beans cook until tender-crisp in just 3 minutes, then get tossed with vinegar and margarine for a bright, tangy finish. Sugar substitute provides sweetness without the carbs.

Whole spices add warming depth to this simple side that’s perfect for diabetic diets or anyone watching their sugar intake.

Kitchen Tips

  • Remove bay leaf and cloves before serving
  • Don’t overcook the beans; they should still snap when bent
  • Use red or white wine vinegar for best flavor
  • Adjust sugar substitute to taste preference
