8 minFrozen cherries and vanilla bean specks swirl into a thick, creamy shake that tastes like a cherry pie in a glass.
Using real vanilla bean instead of extract adds those beautiful black flecks and an intense, pure vanilla flavor that makes this simple shake feel luxurious.
Ready in just 5 minutes when you need a cool, fruity treat.
Kitchen Tips
- Scrape vanilla bean properly: Split it lengthwise and use a knife tip to scrape out the paste
- Vanilla extract substitute: Use 1 teaspoon vanilla extract if you don’t have a vanilla bean
- Use frozen cherries: They’re available year-round and create the perfect thick texture
- Adjust consistency: Add more milk for a thinner shake, less for an extra-thick version
- Blend thoroughly: Process until completely smooth with no icy chunks
Variations
- Mix cherries with frozen strawberries or raspberries
- Add a tablespoon of chocolate syrup for a cherry-chocolate twist
- Top with whipped cream and a fresh cherry for a fancy presentation
Ingredients
Directions
Place 10 ounces frozen cherries, 1 cup of low-fat vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt and 1 cup of skim milk in a blender.
Split a vanilla bean in half and use the tip of a sharp knife to scape all the black paste from inside one half into the blender. (If you don’t have any vanilla bean, you can just use 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract).
Blend until smooth.
Serve.
