8 hrsThese homemade cheese crackers have a name that’s all fun and a flavor that’s all business.
Sharp cheddar gets creamed with butter and a splash of tomato juice, then mixed with chopped pecans, flour, and just enough red pepper flakes to keep things interesting.
Roll the dough into logs, chill overnight, then slice and bake until crispy and golden.
They come out buttery, nutty, and with a gentle heat that sneaks up on you in the best way.
These are the kind of crackers that vanish from the appetizer table before you even sit down.
Pro Tips
- The dough must chill overnight so it firms up enough to slice cleanly. Don’t skip this step
- Slice them a consistent ¼ inch thick so they bake evenly
- These freeze well as logs of dough. Slice and bake straight from frozen, just add a couple minutes to the bake time
- Pair with a cold beer, a glass of wine, or a sharp mustard dip for parties
