Some meals don’t need to be fancy. They just need to be on the table fast and gone even faster.

This is the franks and beans you grew up on, but with a little extra love. Hot dogs get browned in a skillet with onions until they pick up some color, then everything gets stirred together with pork and beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and a splash of Worcestershire for depth.

Ten minutes of simmering and dinner is done. It’s the kind of straightforward, belly-warming meal that kids demolish and adults secretly enjoy just as much.

Kitchen Tips

  • Brown the frankfurters until they get some golden spots on the edges. That little bit of caramelization adds more flavor than you’d expect
  • Stir gently once the beans are in the skillet. You want the beans to stay whole, not mashed
  • This doubles easily for a crowd and reheats well the next day for quick lunches
