German chocolate cake layered with gooey caramel, chocolate chips, and nuts for a candy bar-inspired dessert that tastes like Snickers in cake form.

This showstopper cake hides a molten caramel center studded with chocolate and nuts.

Bake half the batter, pour on melted caramels mixed with butter and milk, then top with remaining batter for layers of texture.

The two-stage baking process ensures the bottom layer sets before the caramel goes on.

Serve warm with whipped cream to balance the intense sweetness.

Baking Tips

  • Melt caramels slowly over low heat so they don’t scorch and turn bitter
  • Stir the caramel mixture constantly until silky smooth with no lumps
  • Dot chocolate chips and nuts evenly across the caramel layer for balanced flavor
  • Let the cake cool 15 minutes before slicing or the caramel will ooze everywhere
