| 10 | cups | water | |
| 3 1/4 | (1 | green peas | |
| 1 | large | red onion | diced |
| 1/2 | pound | yam | diced |
| 3 | large | celery stalks | chopped |
| 1 | pound | spinach | chopped |
| 1 | cloves | garlic | pressed, minced |
| 2 | teaspoons | basil | |
| 2 | cups | green peas | shelled |
| 3 | tablespoons | soy sauce, tamari | |
| 3 | tablespoons | molasses |
In 6 or 8 quart pot bring water, split peas, onion, yam, and celery to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer covered about 30 min.
Add spinach, garlic and basil. Bring to boil again.
Reduce heat and simmer 25-35 min.
