| 6 | each | herring, pickled | drained |
| 1 | large | onion | chopped |
| 1 | each | garlic clove | crushed |
| 6 | whole | eggs | hardboiled, peeled, chopped |
| 1 | whole | apple | cored, chopped |
| 1 | teaspoon | lemon juice | |
| 1 | cup | sour cream | |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | black pepper | |
| 2 | tablespoons | dill weed | fresh, (or use parsley) |
1. Cut herring into small cubes. Mix herring with onion, eggs, apple, and lemon juice.
2. Combine sour cream, garlic, salt and pepper; add to herring mixture and mix well. Sprinkle with dill or parsley.
3. Serve with rye bread.
