| 1 | cup | sugar | |
| 1 | cup | vegetable shortening | |
| 1 | cup | dark molasses | |
| 3 | tablespoons | dark molasses | |
| 3/4 | cup | water | warm |
| 1 | each | egg | |
| 3 | teaspoons | baking soda | add to water |
| 1 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 2 | teaspoons | ginger | |
| 2 | teaspoons | cinnamon | |
| 1 | teaspoon | cloves |
Cream sugar and shortening, add molasses, then water, egg and remaining ingredients.
Add enough flour to make a nice thick dough.
Chill several hours or overnight.
Roll out and cut into 3 inch rounds. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 8 min. or till done.
Sprinkle with sugar.
