| 1/3 | cup | olive oil | |
| 3 | pounds | beef steak | lean ground |
| 2 | x | onions | peeled and finely chopped |
| 3 | cloves | garlic | peel & finely chop |
| 1 | x | salt | |
| 4 | cups | water | boiling |
| 1 | teaspoon | caraway seeds | |
| 2 | teaspoons | sesame seeds | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | oregano | |
| 4 | tablespoons | chili powder | |
| 1 | cup | green olives | pitted |
| 2 | cans | kidney beans | 1 lb cans, drained and rinced |
Chop the steak into 1 inch cubes. Heat the oil and beef a few cubes at a time, turning to brown on all sides. Add the chopped onions and sauté over medium heat for 2 or 3 minutes then add the garlic.
Season with salt to taste. Add the boiling water, caraway and sesame seeds and oregano. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Gradually stir in the chili powder, testing frequently until you achieve the degree of flavour and hotness that suits you. Add olives, cover and simmer for another hour.
Taste, and correct the seasoning then mix in kidney beans and heat through.
Toasted french bread, tortillas or corn bread go well with this and a crisp green salad.

As one of the more well-known fruits around Christmas time, the cranberry can be found in almost anything. Cakes, sauces, tarts and even ginger ale become festive once winter has arrived and cranberries are in season....
Wonderful flavors. I substituted 1/2 cup of white wine for 1/2 cup of the cream. Adjusting flavor with salt and pepper before serving is critical. My house still smells great from preparing this aromatic dish!
