Six ingredients stirred into a bowl and you’ve got a curry-spiced yogurt dip that works as a party appetizer or a quick snack with raw vegetables. Two teaspoons of curry powder does the heavy lifting, turning plain yogurt into something aromatic and golden.

Honey and lemon juice balance the curry’s earthiness. The honey smooths out any bitter edge from the spice blend while the lemon juice adds a bright acidity that keeps the dip from tasting flat. A dash of hot pepper sauce brings a gentle heat that builds behind the curry.

Letting the dip sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving is a step worth following. The curry powder needs time to hydrate and bloom in the yogurt. Straight from the mixing bowl, the spice tastes raw and gritty. After 30 minutes, it’s smooth, warm, and fully integrated.

Top with finely chopped almonds or walnuts for crunch. The nuts add a toasty contrast to the cool, creamy yogurt and make the dip look more finished on a platter.

Pro Tips

  • Use full-fat plain yogurt for the thickest, creamiest dip. Greek yogurt works too and makes an even thicker version.
  • Toast the curry powder in a dry pan for 30 seconds before stirring it in. This deepens the flavor dramatically.
  • Taste and adjust the honey and lemon after the 30-minute rest. The flavors shift as the curry hydrates.

Variations

  • Fruity version: Stir in a tablespoon of mango chutney for a sweet, tangy twist.
  • Herbed: Add a tablespoon of finely chopped fresh mint or cilantro for a fresher, greener flavor.
