30 minYes, you read that right. Popcorn. In bread.
This bread machine recipe takes buttered, salted popcorn, crushes it down, and folds it right into a yeast dough with flour, a touch of ginger, and Butter Buds for extra buttery flavor.
The popcorn breaks down during the knead and bake cycle, leaving behind a subtle corn sweetness and a tender crumb that tastes like something you can’t quite name but definitely want more of.
Just dump everything in your bread machine, hit start, and let it work its magic.
Kitchen Tips
- Crush the popped popcorn thoroughly; big pieces won’t incorporate and can create holes in the bread
- Pop 5 cups of popcorn and crush until you have about 2 ½ cups of crushed volume
- The gluten flour helps structure since the crushed popcorn weakens the dough
- This makes a great conversation-starter loaf for potlucks and dinner parties
