5 minFour ingredients in a blender and you’ve got a thick, creamy shake that’s naturally sweet without a grain of added sugar. Plain yogurt, blueberries, a ripe banana, and fresh-squeezed orange juice do all the work.
The ripe banana is what makes this shake creamy and sweet. Use one with brown spots on the skin. Underripe bananas are starchy and won’t blend smooth, and you’ll taste the difference. The banana also thickens the shake so it has body instead of being watery.
Fresh-squeezed orange juice adds a citrus brightness that keeps the shake from tasting heavy. Store-bought works, but freshly squeezed has a cleaner, more vibrant flavor that pairs better with the blueberries.
Blend on medium speed until completely smooth and frothy. Blueberry skins can leave tiny flecks if you don’t blend long enough, so give it a good 30-45 seconds.
Kitchen Tips
- Use frozen blueberries for a thicker, colder shake without needing ice (which dilutes the flavor).
- Full-fat plain yogurt gives the richest texture. Low-fat works but the shake will be thinner.
- Taste before pouring. If you want it sweeter, add a drizzle of honey. If it’s too thick, splash in more orange juice.
Variations
- Tropical twist: Swap the blueberries for mango chunks and use coconut yogurt instead of plain.
- Protein shake: Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a tablespoon of almond butter for a post-workout version.
